Have a plan, or Become someones plan. As L&D professionals, we know the importance of a roadmap. But what about our employees? The saying goes: "If you don't have a plan, you become part of someone else's plan." This is especially true in the ever-changing world of work. Without a clear career development plan, employees risk getting swept up in the current, landing in roles that don't align with their strengths or aspirations. Here's how we can empower our teams to chart their own course: Individualized Development Plans (IDPs): Facilitate conversations to help employees identify their goals and bridge the skills gap. Mentorship Programs: Pair experienced employees with mentees to provide guidance and support. Skills Development Opportunities: Offer a variety of learning resources, from workshops to online courses, to help employees build their skillset. Regular Check-Ins: Schedule regular meetings to discuss progress, address challenges, and keep the development plan on track. By investing in employee development planning, we're not just shaping their careers, we're shaping the future of our organizations. What are your thoughts on the importance of development planning? Why L&D Makes Me Leap Out of Bed Every Morning There's something truly special about working in Learning and Development (L&D). It's not just about creating training programs (although that can be fun too!). It's about fostering growth, igniting potential, and witnessing the "aha!" moments that propel people and businesses forward. Here's what gets me fired up: The Spark of Discovery: There's immense satisfaction in seeing employees grasp new concepts, overcome challenges, and apply their newfound knowledge. It's like witnessing a light bulb go off – a testament to the power of learning. Building the Bridge: L&D bridges the gap between skills gaps and organisational goals. We identify areas for development, design targeted programs, and empower employees to excel in their roles. It's a strategic dance that fuels success. The Lifelong Learner Community: In L&D, we're all lifelong learners ourselves. The field is constantly evolving, with new technologies and methodologies emerging. There's always something new to explore, keeping the work dynamic and engaging. The Ripple Effect: The impact of L&D extends far beyond individual skill development. It fosters a culture of continuous learning, boosts employee engagement, and ultimately contributes to a thriving company culture. If you're passionate about helping others grow and making a real impact, then L&D might be your calling too! #learninganddevelopment #lifelonglearning #growthmindset #employeengagement

360 degrees feedback is imperative to stay ahead and evolve constantly in this era of employability. Gain insights from colleagues at all levels (up, down, and peers), discover areas you might overlook, and turn this feedback into actionable growth plans. Make feedback an ongoing process, not a one-time event. #SelfAwareness

Why Effective Grading Matters in Education and the Workplace Grading is not just about assigning a number to performance; it's a tool for motivation, feedback, and continuous improvement. Whether in academia or in the professional world, grading systems should be designed to reflect both effort and outcomes. A well-structured grading system offers clarity and fairness, ensuring that each individual is assessed on their merits and growth. Key elements of effective grading include: Clear Criteria: Transparent rubrics help individuals understand what is expected and how they can excel. Consistency: Fairness is essential—each performance should be judged according to the same standards. Feedback: Grades are most valuable when paired with constructive feedback, guiding the next steps for improvement. Ultimately, grading should not just be a judgment, but a tool for empowering individuals to strive for excellence. In any environment, whether educational or professional, the goal is growth—grading systems should reflect that. #grading #feedback #education #growth #professionaldevelopment

Whilst in a study session earlier this week, we were discussing how all of us gain the most learning and insight when we can relate to the topic of learning through stories / case studies that can be recalled. As someone who has undertaken lots of academic study, I really struggled when the learning was too theoretical and academic as I couldn't always relate to how it applied in everyday practice. As a HR (CIPD) lecturer, I have always taught by story telling, sharing my knowledge and experience with learners in a way that's relevant to them, their profession and career aspirations. It's also something that both Rosa Preston (ACIPD) and I believe is a really important component to our People Academy course. 12 half day workshops, taking line managers around the whole employee lifecycle, sharing our expertise in a way which is understandable and relatable. No Jargon No Academics Very Little Theory (Modelling) Our latest face to face course starts on Thursday of this week focussing on recruitment and selection and I cant wait to hear the initial feedback from our learners already booked on. Did you know that you can book onto the course as a whole, or just individual workshops suited to your specific learning needs? Workshops cover: ✨ Recruitment & Onboarding ✨Induction & Probationary ✨Effective Communication ✨Leadership ✨Development & Promotion ✨Motivation & Engagement ✨Conduct & Disciplinary ✨Grievance & Conflict ✨Sickness & Capability ✨Introduction to Mental Health ✨Family Friendly ✨Succession & Talent Planning Interested in attending?
