3, 2, 1... It’s time for #PitchLive Episode 13 🎬 with #PitchPro Mark Alyn This episode of “Pitch Live with Amy Summers” podcast puts talk show host and radio personality Mark Alyn in the interview hot seat! With more than 30 years experience in broadcast media, interviewing 30,000+ experts and celebrities, Mark Alyn (he/him) shares his insider tips on how to best approach and pitch a broadcast journalist. As host of “Late Night Health Radio,” Mark interviews experts who share how to achieve optimal wellness through natural health. Mark is also a seasoned television reporter and anchor and currently hosts a live cooking show, “Mark Alyn Cooks,” where he combines his love of global cuisine with living a healthy lifestyle. He stresses the importance of making sure your pitch is voice ready and why human connection is paramount in pitching. Key pitching takeaways from Mark Alyn on this episode of “Pitch Live”: When pitching journalists, make it newsworthy not an ad. Don’t pitch yourself. Having a publicist means you’ve been vetted. Make it easy for the journalist - they are often overworked and underpaid. Pick up the phone and pitch journalists so they can hear your voice. Present your pitch like a natural conversation, not a scripted recitation. After emailing a pitch, call and leave a message. Tailor your pitches—don't send finance stories to health reporters. Join Amy Summers for #PitchLive with #PitchPro Mark Alyn to access Mark’s pitching strategies and success stories that prove the power of #ThePitch ☎️🤩 https://lnkd.in/eefqethq #Media #Mentorship #MSH #Pitching

A few weeks ago - I put together and executed a 99 second pitch to a pitch event with an audience of founders and investors... and I won! I sat down with Nick Hughes of Founders Live to discuss my experience pitching and key takeaways. Take a look at the comments for my 99 second pitch (and vote for it if you like it)! The process of building out a 99 second pitch was extremely challenging; how do you condense so much information (and something you're OBSESSED about) into just over a minute and a half? After tons of editing and practice, I found this to be an amazing learning experience of the importance of story-telling and brevity. Here are a few takeaways that helped me really hone in on crafting the pitch: 👀 Understand the motivation of your audience. Figure out what that one thing you need your audience to take away from the pitch is. In my case, this was a generalist audience and I needed them to understand how Legacy is solving a massive problem in the healthcare space 📚 Focus on story A good story focuses on the right balance of ethos(appeal to speaker's vibe), pathos(appeal to emotions) and logos (appeal to reason) that actually gets to the motivations of the audience. I decided to appeal to the logos to demonstrate the problem space and why it matters. ⁉ Use data as punctuation When there is such little time to get your point across, use data as a way to punctuate the parts of your story to really accentuate the depth of what you are conveying in your story. For example, "a large amount of medical spending occurs at the last year of life" vs "25% of medical spending occurs at the last year of life" ❤️ Train your breath and heart rate One of the most important things about pitching is making sure that your presentation aspect is actually smooth and clear. The best way to ensure clarity and cadence of speech is to train your breath and heart rate so that they are calm and your words/body language are working in unison to really punctuate your pitch. The way I do this is by practicing my pitch to a metronome (60bpm - shout out to my orchestra days) and meditating before and after the pitch to slow my heart rate 💭 What are some of your tips and tricks to creating or presenting your elevator pitches? What is something you have had to work on extensively to be better at pitching? #StartupPitching #Storytelling #FoundersJourney #EntrepreneurshipTips #FounderLive #SanDiego https://lnkd.in/eaQy5eNP

One of my Q4 goals is to listen to 1-2 podcasts a week from shows where I’ve been a guest or interviewed the host for The Learn-It-All Podcast. The plan is to share back my key takeaways every Friday. Here’s my latest recap: The Soul of Business Podcast: Episode #179 with host Blaine Bartlett and guest Philippe Bouissou, Ph.D. Bouissou, CEO of Blue Dots Partners and best-selling author of Aligning the Dots. Philippe is a brilliant mind, having worked closely with Steve Jobs and led Apple’s e-commerce division, scaling revenue from 0 to $350M in a year. He’s also served on 23 boards and led 200+ consulting projects. His book, Aligning the Dots, introduces a new paradigm for business growth—focused on aligning four critical axes to maximize success. The key takeaways for me are the four critical axes, which Blaine describes as “one of the most elegant business models” he’s ever encountered: 1. Align the Pain with the Claim Philippe emphasizes that the product or service must directly solve the pain point that a customer is experiencing. If there’s misalignment, the customer won’t buy, no matter how good the product is. Actionable Tip: Ensure your product or service solves a real pain point that customers are willing to pay to have resolved. 2. Align the Message with Customer Perception It’s not enough for your product to be the right solution—it must be communicated in a way that your customers understand and perceive as valuable. Actionable Tip: Test your marketing messages to ensure they are resonating with your target audience. If customers don’t understand or connect with your message, they won’t engage. 3. Align How Customers Want to Buy with How You Sell If your sales method is inconvenient or not aligned with customer expectations, you risk losing them. Philippe talks about the importance of making your product easy to purchase. Actionable Tip: Evaluate your sales channels and purchasing processes. Make it as easy as possible for customers to access your product or service in the way they prefer. 4. Align Expected Delight with Delivered Delight Customers expect a certain level of satisfaction from your product. If you don’t meet or exceed their expectations, they won’t return. Actionable Tip: Understand what “delight” means to your customers and strive to exceed their expectations. Slightly over-delivering on their needs creates long-term loyalty. Closing Thoughts: Philippe’s framework is a powerful reminder that long-term business success isn’t just about intuition—it’s about continuously aligning your company with your target market. By using data to measure and adjust along these four critical axes, businesses can create lasting value, accelerate growth, and maintain a competitive edge in any market.
