Many a times I have been asked why I bat for the underdog. Some of the world's most intriguing and inspiring success stories have been championed by folks that were never first in line or 'natural' successes at the outset. It has taken me years to hone my sights on 'What will succeed' 'What has immense promise' and I can safely say this is the biggest paradox of our times. Companies are able to attract talent but they still don't necessarily select the best. Why? Winners hide in plain sight. Recruiters, Employers: Look with new eyes.
Rejection is redirection. Write it on a sticky, and put it on your bathroom mirror. This mantra is true for Oscar-nominated director, Greta Gerwig. She once applied to prestigious graduate schools like Yale, Juilliard, and NYU and was told “no” by every single one of them, only to later become a Hollywood director whose films have all been Oscar-nominated for Best Picture. There's no denying she is a master storyteller. And yes, we will remind everyone once again that she directed 2023’s top-grossing film, and Warner Bros. highest-grossing global release ever, #Barbie.
