Embracing the Benefits of Risky Play at Playgrounds Playgrounds are vibrant spaces where children can explore, play, and move freely. While it may seem counterintuitive, allowing kids to take on small, managed risks during play can be incredibly beneficial. It fosters physical development, helps them build social connections, and boosts self-confidence. Recently, there has been growing recognition of the value in encouraging children to embrace challenges during play. By supporting them in taking calculated risks and trying new activities, we empower them to grow more resilient and self-assured. What’s the perspective of a child from the view of a Cozy Cocoon by Playworld Inc.? Now you know! Did you also know that 95% of impairments are non-mobility related? (US Dept. of Education) That’s why Playground Specialists works hard to make the case for inclusive equipment on every design and playground we touch. The Cozy Cocoon is designed for children who need space to escape to when overstimulated. I love how it offers some shade, a relaxing spinning motion, and tactile experiences on the interior. The windows, like the one we are looking through in this video, help adults keep an eye on kids, and allow the children to feel enclosed and safe, while still being part of the playground fun. Keep a kids perspective on your next playground project! #playground #inclusive #play #perspective #cozy #spinner

Another insight from my recent interview with The Washington Post: it’s amazing how often kids are better at navigating conflict than we give them credit for. There’s also a design consideration at play here. While observing children at a playground, I noticed that the high points in the play towers naturally became gathering spots. These weren’t just cool lookouts or starting points for epic slides—they became "conference rooms" where kids negotiated the rules of their games. These spaces gave them the opportunity to step away and work through issues independently. --- “As a parent, I want my children to be really inclusive and kind, and so there are times when I’ve stepped in and just pulled them aside and said ‘Hey, this is what I saw.’ And then they can explain themselves a little bit,” Schleicher says. But he’s also aware that an adult’s intervention can turn something minor into a bigger deal. “I think there are also times where it’s important to let children navigate those situations themselves, and you might be surprised by how fast they can resolve conflict.” --- https://lnkd.in/gRmW2XNW #PlaygroundDesign #ChildDevelopment #IndependentPlay #InclusivePlay #OpenEndedPlay #KidsAtPlay #ParentingTips #PlaySpaces #MischiefAndWilde #PlayEverywhere

The playability of children‘s amusement parks lies in providing a rich, stimulating, and exploratory environment that helps children learn, develop, and grow naturally through play. Its significance includes: ① Promoting Physical Development: Various facilities like slides, climbing frames, and balance beams help children strengthen their muscles, coordination, and balance, aiding in physical growth. ② Enhancing Social Skills: Amusement parks are often group activity spaces where children can interact, share toys, and play cooperatively, gradually learning social skills and improving teamwork and communication. ③ Inspiring Creativity and Imagination: The diverse facilities and scenarios offer children space to use their imagination, engaging in role-playing or creative play that stimulates their creativity. ④ Building Problem-Solving Skills: While playing, children encounter small challenges, such as how to climb to a high place or navigate a maze, which helps them develop problem-solving abilities and confidence. ⑤ Meeting Emotional Needs: Children experience joy, success, and a sense of accomplishment in play, which helps in emotional regulation and fosters a positive psychological outlook. ⑥ Stimulating Interest in Learning: Through edutainment facilities, children can learn basic knowledge in a relaxed and enjoyable environment, sparking curiosity for knowledge and exploration. 🎯Having a proper underlay shock pad in a playground is crucial for ensuring the safety and well-being of children. Playgrounds can involve activities that carry a risk of falls and impacts, and an adequate shock-absorbing surface is essential to minimize the potential for serious injuries. The REFO PLAY shock pad is a cushioning layer beneath the playground surface! When a child falls, the shock pad helps to dissipate the impact forces, reducing the transmission of that force to the child's body. This can significantly lower the risk of head injuries, fractures, and other trauma that can occur from falls onto harder surfaces. It provides a more comfortable and forgiving surface for running, jumping, and climbing activities. This can encourage more active and engaged play, fostering young children's physical development and healthy habits. Accessible or all-inclusive playgrounds should be available for everyone no matter of their ability, everyone should have access to play. There are different levels of inclusivity that I will explore here. 1) Accessible- At least part of the playground is accessible to those with limited abilities. This can be play at ground-level that could be reached by a wheelchair either separate or part of the playground. 2) ADA Compliant- The playground meets a ratio of ground-level play vs. above-ground level play. An example of this would be that there five slides or climbers on the playground that can only be reached by climbing, there must be at least two different ground-level play activities. 3) All-Inclusive Playgrounds- These are playgrounds that offer play opportunities for both children with limited abilities as well as those without. These playgrounds allows children to play together without stigmatization of their level of ability. The next time you take your child to the playground, imagine them in a wheelchair and explore to see what activities they would be able to enjoy on the playground. If there isn't any, or a fair amount of them, I encourage you to contact your park administrator. There are grants every year to make older non-ADA Compliant playgrounds compliant by either adding to or replacing current playgrounds.

Playground cheat codes no one wants 𝘆𝗼𝘂 to know 🤯 ⬇ The key to crack a successful playground = 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲. 🗝 𝗟𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗜𝗩𝗜𝗧𝗬 Check your warranties !! If the price is 👍 but the warranty is 👎 you may end up with a playground that needs replacing in a few years. 𝗦𝗔𝗙𝗘𝗧𝗬 If your playground is unsafe, you may be forced to shut down or face a hefty lawsuit if any accidents occur. We believe you shouldn’t pay to have our work inspected, so we pay for an independent inspection report for you. 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗬 𝗩𝗔𝗟𝗨𝗘 You want your play area to stand the test of time, and to provide a service to children of all ages and abilities. Look for key words such as '𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙡𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙚’ '𝙖𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚’ '𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙚 – 𝙢𝙤𝙩𝙤𝙧 𝙨𝙠𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙨’ and '𝙥𝙝𝙮𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙙𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩’.
