I'm so pleased to share the full report of the impact initiative we partnered with portfolio company Origin on - a first-of-its-kind study on the prevalence of pelvic floor problems amongst women ages 18-59. Female health has historically been underserved and under-researched - and when it comes to pelvic floor health, we know very little. This study will start a broader conversation and pull pelvic health issues out of the shadows - ultimately driving more research and accelerating payer coverage. The findings of the 2024 Origin Pelvic Health Study reveal concerning insights into pelvic health issues that affect a significant number of women across the United States, often with little to no clinical support. The study uncovered that 75% of women aged 18-59 reported experiencing symptoms like bladder and bowel problems and pelvic pain within the past year. However, despite the high prevalence, 96% of these women have not received a diagnosis or relevant care from healthcare providers, leaving a substantial care gap. These ongoing symptoms not only impact physical health but also contribute to mental health challenges. Persistent discomfort and limited solutions can increase stress, anxiety, and affect overall wellbeing. At Attn: Grace, we’re on a mission to support and empower women navigating life with urinary incontinence. That includes making sure women have access to information and resources they can trust as they manage their symptoms. A recent study published by our incredible friends at Origin found that pelvic health issues among women ages 18-59 have reached “epidemic levels''. Origin’s study found that 83% of women ages 18-59 experienced at least one pelvic health symptom in the past year and that 1-in-2 women had been impacted by bladder and/or bowel symptoms in the same period. Notably, bladder and bowel symptoms were the most commonly reported of all symptoms that the study tracked. Pelvic health issues are one of the most common triggers for urinary incontinence, a health condition that disproportionately impacts women and can often be mitigated or treated through a variety of modalities, including pelvic floor therapy. Postpartum Pelvic Health Initiative: The Outcome and Looking Forward The response to our postpartum pelvic health program has been overwhelmingly positive. We've received heartfelt gratitude from patients and their families, highlighting the significant impact it's making on their lives. One remarkable story shared at our all-maternal-health staff meeting involved an RN who witnessed firsthand the emotional impact of our program. A patient's mother expressed deep gratitude for the availability of pelvic health services, emphasizing the importance of such support during the postpartum period. This program is more than just providing care; it's paving the way for a new generation of women's health. By addressing postpartum pelvic health issues, we're helping to break the cycle of suffering and empowering women to prioritize their own well-being. The success of our program is evident in the significant increase in direct patient referrals from postpartum, growing from 0 to 16 in just the first quarter. This demonstrates the program's value and the need for these services. Encouraged by this success, we're exploring expanding our coverage to include patients who have undergone pelvic organ prolapse repair. This expansion will further contribute to improving women's health and well-being post-operatively.
