Did you know that 10% of children have experienced 3 or more adverse childhood experiences (ACEs)? This places them at high risk for poor health (including mental health) and socioeconomic outcomes across their lives. Reducing ACEs and boosting early child neurodevelopment is the most effective way to save future chronic healthcare costs and boost societal productivity. But the needed interventions are complex. I love this overview of the landscape by the Center for Community Resilience at The George Washington University- Milken Institute School of Public Health. Our global child development team is working on integrated solutions that prevent ACEs and build resilience through maximized neurodevelopment in early childhood.

Emotional regulation takes years for children to internalise and like all areas of development it happens at different times for different children. But unlike other areas of development we are less empathic when a child has not internalised this capability yet. Statements such as "they should know better" or "they're just at it" are not uncommon. For some children it's even harder, for example those who have experienced developmental trauma or are neurodivergent. They may present in other areas of development in line with their chronological age but due to their biology and a vulnerable nervous system they become overwhelmed with daily demands. If you are caring for or supporting a child, who becomes easily distressed and dysregulated, irrespective of their age, come along to our live webinar, Navigating the Early Years, Tuesday 18th June at 7pm. We will be exploring the development of emotional regulation and how to meet your child where they are at. Book you spot at https://lnkd.in/eJ-cryzq
