Today is #NDSUGivingDay! It's the time you can make a difference in the lives of NDSU researchers! NDSU VPR Colleen Fitzgerald, Ph.D. discusses the path to R1 excellence and how we arrived in that unique space. You can help support this important work through the Transformative Research Leaders Fund. This fund will enable our researchers to focus more extensively on their work by providing resources to buy out some of their time commitments. At many other research universities across the country, buyouts of faculty time are normalized as they allow them to rededicate and prioritize their time on research. https://lnkd.in/gM8PUQuv https://lnkd.in/gM8PUQuv

Our #EncounteringEcosystems module challenged final-year undergraduate students at LIS: The London Interdisciplinary School to take a fresh look at the places and species they encounter every day. They learned how to use a range of qualitative and quantitative methods to gather data, which informed or inspired their final creative submission. In his 7-minute film 'Beyond Borders', Felix Hawkings highlights the #rewilding occurring within, around, and through urban development at #QueenElizabethOlympicPark, drawing on the concepts of #symbiosis in the ecological sense as discussed by Jon Sapp, #SymbioticCulture as described by Richard Flyer, and #Pluriversality as championed by Sahana Chattopadhyay. In his own words, Felix explains: "...symbiosis emerges as both a socio-cultural and biological phenomenon. Flyer's emphasises the practical applications which complement Sapp's exploration of symbiosis as a cornerstone of life. This all provides a multifaceted understanding of symbiosis as both a cultural essential and biological fundamental. Pluriversality, as explained by Sahana Chattopadhyay, embodies a profound reconceptualization of our world. This transcends the dominant narrative and embraces diverse perspectives. Drawing from scholars like Arturo Escobar, Ashish Kothari, and Walter D. Mignolo, Chattopadhyay highlights its departure from reductionist paradigms and then states, ‘Pluriversality proposes alternative visions of a world that is essentially in alignment and in harmony with life’. This concept reflects the rich tapestry of entanglement and underscores pluriversality's intrinsic nature, asserting, ‘The pluriverse is not an esoteric concept; it is our natural state’. Chattopadhyay's insights underscore the imperative to embrace pluriversal visions as what can be a transformative catalyst against entrenched dominances, which then can foster a renewal of collective imagination and also planetary reconstruction... ...Symbiosis and Pluriversality intersect with the portrayal of diverse worlds harmonising through interconnectedness." #ecologicaleducation #environmentaleducation #pluriversal #symbiosis #decolonialeducation #decolonialecology #transformativelearning #mutualism #collectiveimagination #interdisciplinarylearning #mixedmethods #ontopoetics

I enjoyed following the discussion of Piia Hyvämäki and the opponent Adjunct Professor Heljä Lundgrén-Laine in the doctoral thesis defence: Client and Patient Safety in the Exchange of Patient Information Between Healthcare Organizations. 👏🏻 What stood out for me in the research, was: ❄️ in order to ensure patient safety, the exchange of data needs to happen between the healthcare organizations (and in a secure manner), ❄️ machine learning driven clinical decision making tools can improve patient safety, and ❄️ taking a patient-centric approach is crucial in data-driven decision-making tools and as part of the care journeys. #healthdata #AI #machinelearning #patientcentric #healthecosystem #research
Heartfelt congratulations to Piia Hyvämäki! It has been a true honor and joy to serve as your co-supervisor throughout your PhD journey.

Personal professional goal unlocked today! Had the opportunity to contribute to the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine's Barriers and Opportunities for Facilitating Team Science Workshop. Fortunate enough to represent #NORDP and #UofA as we all work towards supporting team scholarship. Thanks to Nicole Motzer, PhD for moderating the session, what an inspiration she is for all of us in #ResearchDevelopment to aspire to in terms of expertise in team science! Disruptive and systemic change takes time and iteration. Work like this by the Committee on Research and Application in Team Science will help us get there faster. Important Caveat: my comments and opinions are my own, hopefully they resonate and provide some support for continuing this important work. #NASEM #TeamScholarship #TeamScience

What is it like doing a PhD? I often get asked this question. It's hard to explain as every student's experience can be different. But you get the idea from this chart by Elena Hoffer, PhD What's missing from the chart? #phd #academia #phdlife
