Being huge basketball fan and casual player myself, I was elated watching the Boston Celtics winning the 2024 NBA finals over the Dallas Maverick in Game 5 (4-1) live on the TV this morning. Leading is like orchestrating a winning volleyball game: it's about guiding each player to serve their best, set up perfect plays, and spike opportunities to victory. Many of my weekends between January and June are spent watching my kid play volleyball- this weekend was no different. The Single Hardest Skill in Professional Sports is hitting a baseball. Overcoming that difficulty requires doesn’t just require better Talent Evaluation or Player Development. It requires Alignment up and down an organization. When achieved, Alignment ensures Clarity of Thought which then leads to Improved Decision-Making and Ultimately Better Outcomes. In order to win, we all need to prepare mentally and physically, study our opponents, be strategic, ask more questions and never stop until the final buzzer, the purchase order is booked, or the team over achieves its goals (which could also be that final basketball shot 🏀 or customer signature 🖊️). 😃 However, when you foster a team culture “of when the team wins everyone wins” and you demonstrate extreme respect to your opponent, you are a 3 time National Champion. 🏆 🏆 🏆 Coach Dawn Staley’s leadership and actions exemplify all that it takes to build a winning culture, mindset, team of champions, and the utmost respect for their once in a generation (G.O.A.T.) competition.

One of the great shifts in consciousness I have had with so Many leaders and performers is to get them to face the fact that much of their identity IS in what they do, and that’s absolutely correct. It’s tools in acceptance that are required and NOT denial. There’s a ‘ mental health ‘ movement seeking to take away such a brutal place to live but to do that is to deny truth The business owners are winners. Hell bent on success and it’s part of WHO they are: ‘ the winner’ Head coaches. There’s a price, you will be incredibly lonely and you WILL suffer greatly. Passion means suffering. In the acceptance of WHO you are you know you will have mental health issues every day but you have tools to navigate such the burden of WHO you are.
