It was so exciting (and surprisingly daunting) to deliver my lived-experience statement to the Senate Inquiry into Issues related to menopause and perimenopause. I have such high hopes for the inquiry's outcomes for educating women, healthcare professionals, workplaces and society about how women going through #perimenopause and #menopause can be better supported during what can (for some) be such a bamboozling time. From my point of view it comes back to: * Getting the right information at the right time could and should be much more straightforward. * Ensuring our healthcare providers have up-to-date education and training that clearly communicates the options to manage symptoms (if needed) for women. * Women make up around 48 per cent of Australia’s workforce, to lose a percentage of that workforce to symptoms that are manageable is such a burn and a waste (also kind of insulting more isn't done to retain our experience and expertise). * Any changes in societal attitudes will only come by encouraging big conversations that prioritise women’s health and challenge old-fashioned stereotypes. There was so much evidence given by so many other people about all sorts of issues related to perimenopause and menopause. All genuinely informative and insightful, including the likes of Grace Molloy Ceri Cashell Thea O'Connor and many others (this list would be enormous). My thanks to Senator Larissa Waters Marielle Smith Penny Allman-Payne Hollie Hughes Maria Kovacic Louise Pratt and Senator Wendy Askew for hearing us out. More on the inquiry here (and you can listen back) => https://lnkd.in/gSRnZiwh And I got to bang on about it all on Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) News Breakfast with Michael Rowland and Emma Rebellato early doors.

Breaking the stigma around menopause is gaining well-deserved momentum, driven by celebrity voices and engaging online discussions. Our research reveals a 20% increase in global English social media posts about perimenopause from Nov 2023 to Jan 2024. Interestingly, UK Google searches for perimenopause now exceed those for menopause, a trend not mirrored in the US or Australia, suggesting earlier awareness among younger UK women. This signals an opportunity for companies and healthcare providers to offer targeted educational materials, promoting early symptom management to this proactive, younger demographic. Our upcoming report, led by Pippa Brown with support from Sara Boretti and myself, dives into patient trends regarding menopause. Preview slides from our report attached. Stay tuned for the full report and reach out if you are interested in learning more! #menopause #perimenopause #womenshealth #patientexperience
