#FuzzFriday: There's been much talk about daylighting in our industry recently, including a feature in this month's issue of Metal Construction News. But what exactly is it, and how can your metal building #insulation system boost the benefits of daylighting? Daylighting is the controlled admission of natural light into a building using diffused #skylights in tandem with energy-efficient lighting and a responsive lighting control system. #Daylighting improves energy efficiency, reduces utility costs for building owners, and has even been proven to improve workplace conditions and productivity. But did you know that a bright white vapor retarder can also bolster some of these benefits? That's right: In addition to serving as the last line of defense against condensation, a white vapor retarder aids in creating an attractive, finished interior appearance which may allow for reduced lighting loads. Learn more about our wide selection of vapor retarders for metal building insulation here: https://lnkd.in/eFrFPyrz

Do you really want to tear out your old, outdated curtain wall system? Why not bring it up to code instead! Rather than removing your building occupants to replace your existing curtain wall systems, you can simply remove the glass while leaving the framing, apply the FortMax™ Thermal Barrier, install new glass, pressure plates, and covers, all while allowing your occupants to remain in the building. It really is that simple. Check out how the Retrofit System is installed. ⬇ #retrofit #buildingenvelope #curtainwall

What are the detrimental effects of not insulating window and door reveals? Condensation: Temperature differentials between indoor and outdoor environments can cause condensation to form on uninsulated surfaces. This moisture buildup can potentially lead to mould and mildew issues, compromising indoor air quality and potentially causing health problems. Structural Damage: Over time, moisture from condensation or infiltration due to uninsulated reveals can damage the structural integrity of windows, doors, and surrounding walls. This can lead to rot, decay, or warping of materials, requiring costly repairs or replacements. Energy Loss: Uninsulated reveals lead to heat loss during colder months and heat gain during warmer months. This can significantly increase energy bills as heating and cooling systems work harder to maintain a consistent temperature. Reduced Comfort: Drafts caused by uninsulated reveals can create uncomfortable indoor conditions, making it difficult to maintain a consistent and comfortable temperature throughout the home or building. Noise Transmission: Insufficient insulation around windows and doors can also allow outside noise to penetrate into the interior spaces, reducing the overall acoustic comfort within the building. Properly insulating window and door reveals helps maintain airtightness, thermal efficiency, and structural integrity, contributing to a more comfortable and energy-efficient indoor environment. #Retrofit #Renovation #Construction #Sustainability #Architects #Insulation #WoodfibreInsulation

Air sealing 1-inch gap in attic – This was hidden under the fiberglass and was not sealed when the building was put together 20 years ago. We could feel the cool conditioned air from the living space coming from the gap 💨 Did you know that most average homes have gaps or spaces that allow air to escape? This is taking a huge toll on your home’s energy efficiency. Let us help! Once the gaps have been identified, our experienced technicians will seal hidden air leaks, stopping unwanted air movement and moisture build-up, and increasing your home’s overall comfort. Air sealing, combined with the correct insulation, is the most impactful thing you can do to improve energy efficiency and home comfort. --------------------------------------------- #insulation #sprayfoam #insulationcontractors #insulationfoam #insulationinstallation #insulationcontractor #contractor #construction #homebuild #remodel #homedesign #sprayfoaminsulation #energyefficient #airsealing #sprayfoaming #insulation #newconstruction #homestyle #constructionlife #homeimprovement #homeimprovementprojects #wallinsulation #airseal #saveenergy #NYcontractors #insulate #buildingthedream #designinspiration #homeideas #comfort

🏠 Spec Homes as Passive Houses? Here’s Why This Trend Is Growing. 🌱 If you're building spec homes, you might be wondering how to stand out in a competitive market. One way? Build passive houses. 🌿 Why does this make sense? 👉 Energy Efficiency Sells: With rising energy costs and a growing focus on sustainability, buyers are increasingly looking for homes that are not only stylish but also energy-efficient. Passive houses, with their airtight construction and superior insulation, offer huge savings on energy bills. 💸 👉 Cutting-Edge Design: Spec homes often feature the latest materials and building technologies. By incorporating passive house principles, you can deliver a home that’s not only modern but also built to the highest energy efficiency standards. The Passive House concept was born in Germany, and many of Europe’s best windows and materials are made to these strict standards. The best part? They’re always more affordable than U.S. alternatives and you can easily find European windows that are already listed in the PHIUS-certified database (Passive House Institute US). EU➡️US Curious about how European windows and passive house tech could elevate your next spec home project? 👉 Read more in my guide here: https://lnkd.in/dpFrbpub #PassiveHouse #SpecHomes #SustainableLiving #EnergyEfficiency #Construction #EuropeanWindows

Renovation update: #innovative technology 🔥 Rémi Mandray and I really wanted to take the opportunity to introduce some innovative technology into our small, one bedroom flat. We can't touch the facade, we have no outside space and we can't dig into the floor to install underfloor heating... ...so we have gone with Herschel Infrared Heaters as both a stylish heating solution and in an attempt to help combat some of our damp air/mould issues. Does anyone else have experience of this technology? #infrared #efficientheating #lowcarbon #renovation https://lnkd.in/gG5ahu6f
