To achieve a circular plastics industry, no ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution will do, but a combination of different approaches will be required. In 2022, 400.3 Mt of plastics were produced worldwide (Source: Plastics Europe). Unsurprisingly, consumers and legislative authorities are demanding change and more careful use of resources to achieve a plastics industry that is as climate-neutral as possible. The IWK Institut für Werkstofftechnik und Kunststoffverarbeitung (part of OST – Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences) is working on contributing to this goal. #PlasticWaste #PlasticRecycling #CircularEconomy #NetZero Click the link below to discover more ⬇ https://bit.ly/44PYGpD

ACI's Future of Chemical Recycling 2025 is taking place in NH Amsterdam Barbizon Palace Hotel in The Netherlands on the 5th - 6th February 2025. We are delighted to announce that Peter Schwarz, Head of Sustainability Technologies in Covestro will join us as a speaker and deliver a presentation titled: Advanced Recycling of Engineering Thermoplastics – A Differentiated View on Recyclability, where he will share insights on: ✔️ Engineering thermoplastics face specific problems in recycling: difficult to collect, widely distributed but only small amounts, small fractions ✔️ The generic chemical recycling processes – gasification or pyrolysis – struggle with the heteroatom content in most engineering plastics. Mechanical recycling often is no option as it always is downcycling. ✔️ Engineering thermoplastics offer an interesting potential for polymer-specific advanced recycling procedures, making “smaller circles” possible ✔️ Using Polycarbonate as an example, the presentation will thematize the different generic and specific advanced recycling routes and the particular problems of engineering thermoplastics in advanced recycling.
