Courtesy of an internal tool at Amazon (IFYKYK), I recently learned I've been here longer than 2/3 of global employees. A fun an arbitrary milestone to be sure, but I'm taking it as a win. To commemorate, 2 lessons learned and 3 goals I failed at: 😥 First lesson: most of the stuff I was doing didn't matter. I was good at it, I was fast, and it had no impact. Try to do less. ⛔ Second lesson: Practice saying no. So important and as a people pleaser with decades of service industry experience... I still struggle. Find a partner to compete with if need be, but say no more often. Goals: 🎓 Second bachelors degree: Couldn't realize figure out how I would 'use' it. Gave up before I started, but lots of free time gained 😂 🤝 Creating a specialized internal team: I was excited about but couldn't quite get traction. A few months later as interest rates went up and belts tightened, the team would have been tough to keep going. A bummer but a blessing. 📕 Publishing a book: Finally making progress on this one! Not sure if it counts as a failure since I haven't given up, but it is a process! Hopefully my mistakes help others, any fun lessons that you wish you new sooner?
Grateful for your leadership Sean!
