This week I will celebrate my 15th year running this fintech business. Here are some key learnings: 1.     Team & Tenure There is no substitute for having a great team. A tenured team that has a track record of cycles of success (and a few misses) is rare and powerful. Much of my team has been with me since the beginning. We have grown dramatically. I stand on their shoulders. 2.     Partnerships As A Competency Take the law of large numbers approach to partnerships. Have the intention, procedures and tools to be a great partner. Not all will be game-changing successful but some will. You will learn from all of them. Most successful fintech companies rely on their partnership acumen. 3.     Scale Matters I have seen the power of scale up close. Just trust me on this one. 4.     Active Account Growth Is The Thing Account acquisition and retention are always harder than they first appear. There is real science behind it. Being good at it can unleash a flywheel of growth. Otherwise, you are treading water with an anchor in your hands. 5.     Product Management vs Product Development I appreciate our product development engineers. We have tremendous products that solve real problems for our customers. Product Managers are the pointy end of the spear that ensure you hit the mark and see the next one. These are just a few of the gems that I have learned. I still have much to learn…that’s the fun part. Thanks to all who have been on this journey with me.

Lessons learned from my first round of the 12 Week Year (wrapped at the end of March) What worked: - Weekly accountability meetings with a friend - I have no doubt that I would've failed without this - Having clear boundaries for how i was going to spend my time - RocketMoney for tracking my spending - Timeblocking my calendar What didn’t work: - Setting too many goals per week (ended up setting a cap on how many we could set per week) - Pre-determining my actions for the week too far in advance prevented me from ensuring I was spending my time on “the most impactful things” to get me to my goals - Maintaining my routine while traveling (still very much a work in progress here) Adjustments I'm making for round 2: - Aligning my goals to my authentic code (iykyk) to ensure I'm also spending my time on things that refill my cup. - Setting my weekly actions on Sundays based on prior week's results - Tying the 12 Week year to The Artist's Way with morning pages + artist dates I dug a little deeper in my newsletter if you're curious to learn more (link in comments).

Today marks the 3 month point since I launched The Payment Mentor Network. It has been a busy journey so far but we have achieved a lot in a short amount of time. It doesn't always feel like it but when I listed out what has been done I realised that we do make a difference in helping make the payments industry better. Here is my list so far; ·       Helped one ISO rationalise their Sales structure including lead generation, team structure and commercialisation. ·       Analysed the Scheme Fee charges for one ISO and gave them the recommendations to fix a black hole that had appeared in their P&L as a result. ·       Created a new pricing model that is being used by 3 ISOs ·       Supported a tech startup with designing their sales org with all control mechanisms in place including codes of conduct, job descriptions, call scripting etc. ·       Made 37 Introductions for payments businesses into new technology products in the payment space. ·       Supported 11 product demos to payment businesses. ·       Helped one new entrant get into the payment market ·       Created a Free review service for small businesses linked to a local authority growth forum in order to optimise their card acceptance. ·       Signed 6 Partnership agreements giving me the scope to support businesses of all sizes with their payments journey. I am truly looking forward to the next 3 months and seeing what that brings.
