Toy Safety Awareness Month is underway! The Toy Association and the toy community are joining together all of November to share critical safety tips, including how shoppers can avoid recalled and counterfeit products. “Particularly when shopping second-hand, buying from an unauthorized third-party seller, or accepting a hand-me-down from a well-meaning family member or friend, be sure to check that the toy has not previously been recalled,” said Joan Lawrence. Families are encouraged to sign up for CPSC’s recall notifications at https://lnkd.in/ezSD8Qf7 and to visit www.PlaySafe.org for more trusted safety advice from The Toy Association. Here's a startling truth for peak trading season: up to 97% of toys purchased from well-known websites don't conform with EU regulations, and 77% fail standard safety tests. As online shopping continues to dominate Christmas retail, the risk of non-compliant toys entering homes is increasing. From small detachable parts in toys meant for babies to toxic chemical content, the dangers are real. The challenge is, there's no international framework for toy safety. What's legal in one manufacturing region might be dangerous - or illegal - in another. Understanding local safety standards is crucial for global market access - something we discuss in our blog post, "the nightmare before Christmas". You can read it via the link below. #Christmas #ChristmasShopping #Toys #Toysafety #Compliance

The Toy Industries of Europe (TIE) found that 95% of toys purchased from the online marketplace TEMU did not comply with EU safety standards. They bought 19 toys, and 18 were deemed a safety risk for children, involving dangers like choking and exposure to harmful chemicals. TIE highlighted a significant issue with these toys being sold without an EU-based economic operator responsible for their safety. They are advocating for tighter regulations and enforcement to prevent the sale of unsafe toys through online platforms. Review full article: https://hubs.li/Q02wVHQ-0

A recent report by The Daily Aus revealed that 15 children's toys randomly tested from Temu breached Australian safety laws. This highlights a critical issue that goes beyond just cost – safety. One of the biggest risks in children's toys are the presence of button batteries, which if not secured properly can cause severe injuries or even be life-threatening if swallowed. These types of risks are often overlooked when purchasing from platforms like Temu or AliExpress, where regulations may differ where the goods are produced. While it's tempting to source products directly from overseas, ensuring that your merchandise complies with Australian standards is vital, especially when children's safety is involved. For brands, it’s crucial to understand that sourcing products without considering local compliance can put both customers and brand reputation at serious risk. #InckMerchandise #MerchMadeEasy #NoStressMerch #BrandedMerchandise #SmartMerch #MerchThatMatters #InnovativeMerch Source: The Daily Aus https://bit.ly/3Yqgs16

🎄Very’s new toys campaign: A retail masterclass in early Christmas prep 🎁 The Very Group has just unveiled its new toys campaign on the 1st October - the advent calendars have just dropped in supermarkets 🤨 This is super early!! "Daydreaming" is aimed at inspiring families to start their Christmas shopping early. But why is Very doing this, and what makes it a unique play for customers? 💥 New research shows more than three-fifths of people think about Christmas as early as October. With economic pressures in mind, many shoppers are looking to avoid the last-minute rush and spread the cost of gifts over time. 💥 This campaign is designed to meet these needs, providing families with a preview of top toys while offering flexible payment options through Very Pay to make budgeting easier. Why is this genius? ✅ It's Customer-Centric: Half of parents plan to spend more on toys than last year. Very is responding by positioning themselves as the go-to for early shoppers, leveraging insights to drive engagement. ✅ Flexibility and convenience: By offering Very Pay, customers can spread the cost of gifts, making big-ticket items more accessible without financial strain. ✅ Increased sales & anticipation: Historically, Very’s toy sales jump 67% in October compared to September. The campaign rides this momentum, helping parents secure gifts and avoid the festive scramble. And just maybe this is a preemptive move to get on shoppers radars before the likes of Amazon, Black Friday and a barrage of promotional events are unleashed in the coming month. The Very Group’s strategy highlights a trend toward consumer convenience, flexibility, and customer-insights driven marketing—something every retailer should be watching.

Sainsbury’s shoppers (UK) can order toys and collectibles via an on-shelf touchscreen and collect them from a vending machine when they exit the store, as part of a trial at the supermarket’s Redditch superstore. In the trial, shoppers select from a range of Pokémon toys at a screen on a regular in-aisle shelf, and receive a printed ticket, which can be scanned and paid for at a manned or self-checkout or with a Smartshop handset. Upon purchase, the shopper receives another printed ticket, which is scanned at a vending machine near the exit doors of the store. Once scanned, the machine dispenses the chosen toy.

As I continue my post to sustain our Life Trends 2025, this piece of news seems perfectly fitting for our cost of hesitations. As we sit in front of our screens, overwhelmed with offers, we are faced with several layers of fear. Will the product or services meet the quality standards they advertise? Will they arrive on time and seamlessly? Will my data and my money be safe with this unknown vendor? Unfortunately, all these levels of fear of the unkown, translate in one level of trust which extends to the known. Once bitten, a million times shy. A bad experience in any of these areas will make any consumer more weary of products and channels they used to know and trust. So for every scam out there, there is a previously trusted brand or commerce site risking their reputation. But it also a spectacular chance to establish a company like a beacon of trust. No other story brings it to life like this toxic toys incident. Are unbranded toys worth the risk? Are platform responsible for the quality of goods sold? Is direct to consumer a safe channel? Are the right regulations in place and will they be? So, how safe is your brand and how can you make it stand like a lighthouse in a storm of hesitation? #LifeTrends25 #innovation #acinmilan #toys #consumergoods Mark Curtis Lewis Harvey Josh Woods Agneta Björnsjö Lucia Benà Leonardo Boscardi Mauro Toffoli Carlotta Civiero Oliver Wright Karen Fang Grant Angela Perego Till Dudler Oliver Grange Kieran Mongon Chris Williams Alessandra Zanetti Nick Rosa Linda Miccolis Alice Loda Sebastian Romano Marco Barbirolo Kelly Askew Laurent Thoumine https://lnkd.in/dGhAis3V

It’s scary to think that something you might buy for your baby could harm, or potentially even kill them. But some cheap baby toys from online marketplaces, markets or small discount stores can be deadly. They may contain: • Super-strong magnets that can rip through your child’s belly • Easy-access button batteries that can kill your child if swallowed • Small parts that can choke them • Long cords that can strangle • Harmful levels of chemicals The danger isn’t always obvious. And under 3s are most at risk. If you’re shopping for a toy for your baby, we recommend opting for well-known brand names and retailers if you can.
