Rethinking Unpaid Internships: Why They Need to Go Unpaid internships have long been a staple in many industries, but it’s time to question their value and impact. I have come across so many unpaid internships and I have realised that its high time that company must start recognizing that people do have feelings. In the name of getting exposure, experience, adding extra skills to intern's resume , one can't work on full time basis with good skillset. Companies must stop making growth at people's expense. Monetary appreciation must be there for some kind of encouragement. Banning unpaid internships could level the playing field, ensuring that all individuals have equal access to valuable career opportunities. Situation Nowadays: Number of unpaid internships 📈 Amount of knowledge shared with interns 📉 ------- Ngl, every second internship opportunity here on LinkedIn is unpaid. Note: I am not saying that an unpaid internship in every company is not worth it (you learn a lotttt from some), but it is NOT THE SAME ANYMORE. ------------ Why does a person want to pursue an internship? - Either to gain some knowledge - OR to get some funds But, if both of these criterion are NOT BEING FULFILLED, then what is even the need?? ------------- Especially in departments such as Design & HR, companies usually hire people, make them work 6-7 hours per day, no knowledge & experience is being shared & are just given a certificate in the end!
