Exciting news! We’ve secured support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund for our documentary project ‘Community: Becoming Black & British’! Over the next three years, we’ll unite young people and industry experts to interview their elders, preserving their stories in a documentary film. This documentary will spotlight the 1970s to 2000, a pivotal era when influential Black community organisations emerged, contributing hugely to our society. Many of these organisations have since closed, and their invaluable contributions are at risk of being forgotten. Our documentary will honour the courage and resilience of the children of the Windrush Generation. The first part of the documentary which features organisations in Westminster and Brent, received a wonderful response when it was premiered at this year’s Triangle of Unity Festival. We are looking forward to taking the initiative to Leeds, Bristol, Birmingham and Liverpool in the future. #theworldreimagined #nationalheritagelotteryfund #community

The issue of Human Trafficking is a major problem in many parts of the world, including the USA, Canada, and the Caribbean. Shockingly, African Black Human Traffickers in Canada: Canadian men between the ages of 18 and 27 are dominating this industry. It's time for the Black community to take action, including non-profit organizations, law enforcement, schools, and related groups, particularly in Quebec, Ontario, Ottawa, Cornwall, Windsor, and other areas. We cannot let any more young Black lives be lost to this terrible practice. Our recent report revealed that a native Canadian woman was discovered in a Caribbean brothel, and over 83 brothels are operating in the Caribbean. Let's work together to combat human trafficking and protect the most vulnerable in our society. Join us in raising awareness about this critical issue and taking action to help end human trafficking. Together, we can make a difference and save lives. #EndHumanTrafficking #BlackLivesMatter #ProtectTheVulnerable

Our Director Kunle Olulode MBE, FRSA, RSM was invited to speak at the ‘A Civil Alliance’ event organised by Pro Bono Economics. Reflecting on the key discussions of the day, Kunle explored how we can strengthen the alliance between the civil service and civil society, emphasising the need for better engagement with young people. In addition to this impactful event, Kunle was also interviewed last week by Civil Society Media Ltd, where he discussed the challenges he has faced in his career and the barriers preventing greater equality in the charity sector. "The sector is populated by a significant number of people from Black and minoritised communities, but their ability to influence in those areas is limited. Representation on its own is not enough in terms of changing culture in organisations.” Read the full interview here➡️https://lnkd.in/et7UQpg7

"America continues to deny the legacy of racism and its current day realities, still racial disparities continue to exist on every indicator of well-being. In the case of the Fearless Fund, the data is clear, Black women entrepreneurs receive less than 1% of venture capital funding in this country irrespective of their creditworthiness or financial potential. The Fearless Fund is a courageous effort by Black women designed to address this funding gap; yet even when Black people raise funds to help our own community, we are attacked." Read more from ABFE. I am pushing for the use of COVID-19 relief funds to establish a necessary rental assistance program targeting the Black community in District 7. If those funds are unavailable or blocked by red tape, we demand an alternative: allocate a specific percentage of the millage rate directly to this vital initiative. My proposal is clear: $750 per month for 18 months to residents earning under $50,000. This support is not just critical—it is a measure of our city’s integrity and commitment to social justice. City leaders, hear me loud and clear: Secure the funding through whatever means necessary. This is not merely a suggestion; it is a mandate from the community you serve. I expect action, and I expect it now. Do the right thing. If COVID-19 funds are out of reach, then adjusting the millage rate is your responsibility. My patience is thin. I am are ready to mobilize and hold you accountable. The time for deliberation is over; the time for action is now. I am asking for good honest Black People to show up on Tuesday night and speak in support of my proposal. Look It's not just a benefit to me. But its also a benefit to you as well. Council meeting is this next upcoming Tuesday night at 5p.m.

Are you at the Grantmakers for Effective Organizations (GEO) Conference in Los Angeles, CA this week? Join us tomorrow! Frontline Founder, Marcus Littles, will be in conversation with Phillip Agnew and Angie Junck on "Reframing Evidence: Base-building as a Road to Black Liberation" Tues. May 21, 3:15-4:30PM in the San Fernando Room on the Lobby Level. There’s often a conversation around the lack of metrics and evidence that base building has led to Black liberation and supports Black people to reclaim their power. Organizing is an effective tool and we can be thinking about how to leverage metrics and evidence to serve the community instead of being extractive. In this space, we’ll be interrogating this assumption and discussing why base building should be a philanthropic priority, given the evidence of its success.

Gobioff Foundation could use some help identifying potential organizations to receive our Juneteenth grants. Each year since 2020, the Gobioff Foundation has chosen 5 organizations to receive unrestricted grants of $20,000 with no obligations or expectation of reporting. As a small family foundation, we are looking to our community to help identify worthy organizations to support as part of this program. To qualify, organizations must be an eligible 501(c)3 as determined by the IRS, have BIPOC leadership, and have a mission to improve Black Lives. Organizations can be located anywhere in the United Sates. They do not have to be art organizations. Art isn’t a category we are looking for. This is NOT a popularity contest. Coordinated efforts by organizations to have multiple people submit will not make a difference. We’re not counting votes. We are just trying to discover organizations that we wouldn’t otherwise know about. To see what type of organization we are looking for, please look at the list of previous Juneteenth grantees on our Grantees page. Nominate here: https://lnkd.in/eH4g2BeK
