Halloween Overload? 🎃 Every October, Halloween’s influence seems to loom larger, and I can’t help but wonder: Why are we so quick to adopt every American tradition, especially when it’s not part of our own culture? Halloween, with its costumes, decorations and begging for candy has transformed from an old Irish tradition to an almost mandatory celebration. And I honestly don’t see the point. As for candy, today’s children get an overload of candy anyway - every day. Obesity is soon to be a worldwide problem. 🍭 And who truly benefits here? 💲 Retailers and marketers make a fortune from our enthusiasm, pushing us to spend on costumes, candy and decorations that mean little in the context of our own cultural heritage, at least where I live in Norway. It’s hard not to feel like this adoption is driven more by profit than by any real appreciation of tradition. 💰 Am I just growing into an old grumpy lady? What are your thoughts? Is Halloween just harmless fun, or should we be more mindful of the traditions we embrace - and who profits from them? --------------- - I'm Monica a translator and genealogist who appreciates culture and traditon. #CulturalIdentity #Halloween #Traditions #Consumerism #QuestioningAdoption #Culture #Profit #HappyHalloween #TrickOrTreat

Halloween brings a special kind of magic. There's the creepy costumes, glowing pumpkins, and the thrill of the day. But for our cherished seniors, it can also be a bit overwhelming or lonely if they aren't able to fully participate. Instead of letting them miss out, we can transform this Halloween into an inclusive, joyful celebration. With a little extra thought and care, we can turn ghostly gatherings into unforgettable memories for everyone, and here's how; Before the Halloween fun begins, chat with your senior loved ones about what they’re comfortable with and excited about. Maybe they're up for watching a scary movie marathon or prefer a quieter night of reminiscing about past costumes. Make sure the family knows about any health or mobility considerations, and think about little details like setting up easy transportation and providing quieter spaces when the party gets too loud. To keep the Halloween spirit alive, involve them in activities they enjoy, whether it’s telling spooky tales, decorating pumpkins, or baking up some ghost-shaped cookies. Even a simple costume contest or movie night with classic Halloween flicks can brighten their day. It's about creating a balance between letting them stay involved and providing the support they need. As the night wraps up, remind them that they are loved, not just during the spooky season but all year round. #seniorliving #assistedliving #careoptions #halloween #halloween2024

🎃It is Halloween this week and, if you are new to our country and used to a grand autumnal Halloween celebration, experiencing it in New Zealand might feel puzzling at first! The fact it takes place in spring can take some getting used to, especially as pumpkins and traditional autumn decorations feel out of place among blooming spring flowers. While Halloween is growing in popularity due to American influence, it has its own unique quirks in Aotearoa. ➡️Halloween enthusiasm differs widely by location. Some neighbourhoods embrace it with decorations, while others may not celebrate at all. Check with locals to gauge what to expect in your area. ➡️Unlike in other countries, Kiwis typically put up decorations on Halloween day and take them down the next morning, focusing on a fun, fleeting evening rather than long-term displays. ➡️Costumes tend to be practical and reused year after year. Families often have staple costumes passed down or get creative with items they already have. ➡️One major difference is the absence of pumpkin carving, so you won't see many jack-o'-lanterns on doorsteps.

Rest in peace! Despite tragic incidents like the recent shooting in downtown Orlando, where two people were killed and six others injured during Halloween celebrations, it’s still important to recognize the significance of Halloween. Celebrating Halloween offers people a chance to gather, connect, and share in community spirit, bringing joy, creativity, and a sense of togetherness. It provides a break from everyday stress and fosters a festive atmosphere where people can express themselves through costumes, decorations, and traditions. The issue often isn’t Halloween itself, but how some people choose to celebrate it. Every year, we see instances of individuals taking Halloween celebrations to harmful extremes—whether it’s reckless behavior, excessive drinking, disrespectful costumes, or even violence. These actions can overshadow the holiday’s positive aspects, like creativity, community gatherings, and fun for kids and families. When people ignore boundaries or disregard the safety and comfort of others, it creates a negative atmosphere around Halloween. Promoting responsible, respectful celebrations can help maintain the spirit of Halloween without the negative consequences. It’s about celebrating in a way that’s fun but also mindful of others, keeping the focus on joy, community, and creativity rather than excess or harm. #Halloween #Community #Togetherness #CelebrateResponsibly #HalloweenSafety #FestiveSpirit #Orlando

Halloween costumes are a vibrant and cherished tradition that dates back centuries, rooted in a blend of ancient customs and modern festivities. Originally, the practice can be traced back to the Celtic festival of Samhain, where people would don disguises to ward off roaming spirits. This practice was believed to protect individuals from the supernatural forces that were thought to be especially active on the night when the veil between the living and the dead was thinnest. Today, wearing costumes on Halloween serves a variety of purposes. First and foremost, it's a form of self-expression and creativity, allowing individuals to embody their favorite characters, monsters, or whimsical ideas. For many, it’s a chance to escape reality and embrace the fantastical, whether through playful, scary, or humorous outfits. Moreover, costumes foster a sense of community and shared experience. They encourage social interaction, as friends and families gather for parties, trick-or-treating, and neighborhood events, all while sporting their imaginative attire. This collective celebration of creativity and fun helps to strengthen bonds and create lasting memories. Ultimately, Halloween costumes are a celebration of imagination, tradition, and community, transforming the holiday into a night of joy and excitement for all ages!

Today is Halloween, but is it your thing? It’s one of those ‘marmite’ festivals that people seem to love or hate. There is no denying that the kids love it – well, what 6-year-old doesn’t want a bucketful of sweets? And dressing up in scary costumes; that’s a bit of fun, too. By the 1920s, the Halloween tradition had become a recognised holiday in the US with parades and parties; it wasn’t long before we inherited the custom of dressing up and trick-or-treating. The event now brings in so much revenue that it has become the third biggest money-spinning event in the UK calendar after Christmas and Easter. However, there is still debate about where Halloween (also known as All Hallows Eve) originated. Some swear that this date, traditionally dedicated to remembering the dead, started as a Christian ceremony and was celebrated in Ireland and Scotland long before it was introduced to America. It’s undoubtedly a topic of debate…but we aren’t getting involved in all that. We are just here for the treats! #trickortreat #ghostsandghouls #halloween #scarynight #traditions #halloweentraditions #loveorhate #cambridge #cambridgeestateagent #property

A scary consideration that may send some running and screaming. Halloween, a fun and festive occasion, should be celebrated in businesses with sensitivity and respect for diverse cultural backgrounds. While decorations and themed activities can add a festive atmosphere, it is crucial to ensure they are inclusive and avoid offensive stereotypes. Businesses should also consider the comfort levels of employees and clients, particularly those who may have religious or cultural objections to certain Halloween traditions. By fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment, businesses can create a memorable Halloween celebration that is enjoyable for everyone. #halloween #business #marketing #brandmarketing #salesandmarketing #influencermarketing #linkedinsalesnavigatoruser Follow Visiting Angels of Harford & Cecil Counties

What’s one of the spookiest things about Halloween? The costs. Halloween spending hit an all-time high in 2023 of $12.2 billion, according to the National Retail Foundation, with the average household spending $108.24. That’s up from the $10.6 billion spent in 2022. On the surface, costs may not seem daunting—but between costumes, decorations, greeting cards, and the bags of candy doled out to fairy princesses, superheroes and zombies, Halloween financial expenses can start to look a little scary. With just a few cost-cutting measures and some effective budgeting techniques, avoid getting tricked into overspending and have a ghoulishly great time with your family this Halloween. https://hubs.la/Q02S9cGY0
