We expect students to meet rigorous academic standards, aiming for assignments that push them to achieve more. So why aren’t they? We often focus on increasing the rigor of assignments without considering the thinking skills and tools students need to succeed. Without equipping students with the right fundamental tools, efforts to increase rigor will ultimately fail. If we want students to be successful with more rigorous academic standards, we need to equip them with the fundamental skills and tools they need, tools like Thinking Maps. #StudentSuccess #Teaching https://ow.ly/MZ7S50SB9E3

📊 Exciting insights from my academic year! 📊 I recently analysed the correlation between student attendance in my lectures and their final marks for the academic year. 🎓 Statistically, a perfect correlation suggests that better attendance leads to higher marks. However, my findings revealed an intriguing trend. 🔍 The graph displayed a positive correlation, but it deviated from a perfect match (the fitted dash-line). This deviation highlighted two distinct student groups: 1️⃣ The top-left red group: These students achieved relatively good marks despite less-than-perfect attendance. Their success can be attributed to personal efforts and access to lecture recordings, showcasing the inclusivity of the module. 2️⃣ The bottom-right red group: Conversely, students in this group attended regularly but struggled to achieve high marks. This suggests a lack of focus or engagement during lectures. 🌟 These outliers underscore the diversity among students and validate the real-world complexities of teaching. Moving forward, I plan to monitor this trend over the coming years to draw further insights and refine my teaching approach. Let's continue to explore the fascinating dynamics of student learning together! 💡 #Education #Teaching #DataAnalysis #StudentSuccess #Inclusivity #Engagement

Marks vs. Understanding: What Matters Most? Throughout my academic journey, one question always comes to mind: Is it about the marks or the understanding? While good grades are important, I've realized that a deep understanding of concepts goes far beyond just scoring well on an exam. 📊 Marks might open doors, but it's understanding that keeps you in the room, allowing you to apply knowledge in real-world situations. I've started focusing more on truly grasping the material, using techniques like active recall, spaced repetition, and teaching others. The irony? When I focus on learning, the marks follow naturally! It’s about striking that balance—knowing the grades are important, but understanding is the foundation for long-term success. #LearningVsGrades #ConceptualUnderstanding #ContinuousLearning #PGPM #StudentLife #FinancialManagement
