Thanks, Gabor Holch for an excellent webinar and for bridging the gap between #China and the West. When my friends from Shanghai visited me in Spain, we talked about the same topic: Why are the Chinese so prone to change? As Gabor Holch said in today's webinar because we have no "modern legacy" in China, we jumped from an agrarian society to an industrial powerhouse in just a few decades. Both the people and the society are used to changes whereas in Europe, there are industrial traditions and established systems. I also like what you said about foreign executives who have studied Confucianism and peace and harmony before going to China thinking that the Chinese are peaceful and obedient, but when they arrive they find out that the Chinese are very impatient and demanding. It looks like the Chinese have abandoned their traditions, however, the key reason is that lots of middle-aged professionals have huge financial pressure of both paying their parents' medical bills and sending their kids to the best schools. This is also the main reason the Chinese work so hard because we know that China doesn't have a complete warfare system as most of the Western countries do. (Claudia Elias, this may help you with your video.) Last but not least, thanks for answering my question: How to solve the problems of collaboration between Western and Chinese companies. The information gap is one of the biggest obstacles. I love your approach to building open communication channels on a one-on-one level. #culturaldifferences #internationalbusiness #spanishbusiness #chinesebusiness #china #spain #chineseculture #culturaldifferences #liveinchina #liveinspain #workabroad #liveabroad #chinese #chinamarket #culturaldiversity #culturalawareness #culturalexchange #interculturalcommunication #interculturalcompetence #shareyourthoughts #shareyourstory #shareyourjourney #lifelearning #culturalawareness #culturematters #chinesetourism #chinesetourists #europe #europeanculture

Great thanks to Catherine (Yang) Chen 🇨🇳🇺🇸🇳🇬🇪🇸 for the masterful summary of our free East-West Leadership Coaching & Keynotes webinar yesterday.! This post gives you a perfect China-speed recap of the China-speed webinar, so there is little to add. Perhaps one thought I'd empasize from the end of our discussion is this. Multinatonals from both "the West" US, UK, Germany and so on) and Asia (Japan, Korea) have for too long upheld the illusion that they can beat interantonal markets at their own game. While Chinese competiton is challenging that illusion, Chinese firms themselves are buying into it. PRC EV firms want to challenge EU & US legacy car firms in the premium segment, for example. Instead, I hope that both sides will use the current turmoil as an opportunity to discover the value of diversity: each business culture contributing what they are best at. See you at my next free event!

The rise of China has made learning Chinese a major international trend, especially the developing countries in the "Global South". I publish this article in English just to gently remind my Chinese friends outside the Greater China, especially those who are educated in English and cannot speak Chinese! Just imagine in future, as a Chinese, if you or your children do business or discuss opportunities with counterparts in Africa, Latin America or the Middle East, these potential business partners recognize that you are Chinese and out of goodwill take the initiative to talk to you in Chinese, but you do not understand and converse in Chinese. How embarrassing ! ?

China is a huge country, and it can be difficult to know exactly where to go to make the most of your trip. There are plenty of popular landmarks such as the Great Wall of China that you could visit, but many of the best places in China are some of the lesser-known cities. Not only are these cities wonderful places to see, but you’ll find that they are just as awe-inspiring as the more well-known cities in China. “China is a relational culture, where social relationships are based on mutual obligations, loyalty, and reciprocity. The Chinese tend to have strong and stable ties with their in-groups, such as family, friends, or colleagues, and expect them to provide support, guidance, and protection.” From the book, Understanding Cultural Differences Between China and The West https://a.co/d/9UOr7I8 #CulturalDifferences, #CrossCulturalCommunication, #ChinaAndTheWest, #GlobalBusiness, #CulturalAwareness, #InternationalRelations, #CulturalExchange, #EastMeetsWest, #InterculturalCommunication, #CulturalUnderstanding, #CulturalDiversity, #GlobalMindset, #CulturalInsights, #InternationalBusiness, #ChinaCulture, #WesternCulture, #CulturalCompetence, #CrossCulturalAwareness, #CulturalSensitivity, #GlobalLeadership, #CrossCulturalManagement, #CulturalEducation, #GlobalCommunication, #InterculturalAwareness, #CulturalStudies

Catherine in Spain 🇪🇸 No: 23: Following my last post of Chinese being cold, thanks Antonio Teijeiro 安东 for reminding me of the theory of the coconut and peach cultures from Erin Meyer's book The Culture Map. Yes, Chinese are "coconuts" 🥥🥥. "Some are very cold and hard at the beginning, but when they open up, you have a real friend (this would be the coconuts). Other cultures are completely opposite: very open for chitchat but will not continue down the path of friendship. These are peach cultures, soft on the outside, hard on the inside (Americans are an example of this). " Claudia Elias's million dollar question: What's the best way to get a Chinese person (in general) to open up and feel comfortable with you? That could be in a personal or business relationship. 🤔️My two cents: I have noticed that lost of Chinese are amazed if you know something about their hometown, especially if they are from less known provinces and cities. Most foreigners only know Beijing, Shanghai and maybe Guangzhou, if you could invest a little time in their hometown, it could open doors. #culturaldifferences #internationalbusiness #spanishbusiness #chinesebusiness #china #spain #chineseculture #culturaldifferences #liveinchina #liveinspain #workabroad #liveabroad #chinese #chinamarket #culturaldiversity #culturalawareness #culturalexchange #interculturalcommunication #interculturalcompetence #shareyourthoughts #shareyourstory #culturalintelligence #theculturemap
