In Short Breaks, the system consists of an electric motor that keeps rotating at nominal frequency the main alternator and an appropriately sized flywheel. Electrical Load Matching - Gas turbines often drive alternators to generate electricity. Sizing the alternator ensures that it can efficiently handle the electrical load demand of the system. If the alternator is undersized, it may not be able to produce enough electricity to power the required equipment, leading to system failures or inefficiencies. What does a week of testing in the MHL's towing tank look like? Check out the two videos linked below to get a highly sped-up look at a five days of testing a 1:50 scale semi-submersible offshore platform in waves. The purpose of the test campaign was to evaluate the ability of a series of Tuned Inerter Dampers (TIDs) to reduce the platform's motions in heave and pitch.
