Preventing the improper disposal of lithium-ion batteries in household waste is crucial to protecting waste management facilities from catastrophic fire events. Read more from Jensen Hughes’ Gregory Maines, PE in Waste Management World - WMW, where he shares his expertise on the hidden dangers of lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries in household waste, along with potential solutions for mitigating the fire hazards posed by their improper disposal. Waste management facilities are generally ill-equipped to handle the unique hazards of Li-ion batteries. If improperly discarded into waste streams, various waste management processes can lead to these batteries catching fire, triggering the ignition of surrounding waste piles and leading to a fire that can quickly grow out of control. Addressing the fire hazards posed by Li-ion batteries in waste management facilities ultimately requires a multifaceted approach, including automatic detection devices to prevent the spread of fire as well as improved processes, technologies, and products to reduce the likelihood of improper disposal and collection. Have you ever seen this done? Neither have I…. However,…. the folks operating a landfill will determine whether the materials you bring to them for disposal can pass a paint-filter test. This is very important because if it doesn’t pass, or “looks” like it won’t pass it gets rejected and one of two things will happen. 1. You get turned away and have to find another disposal solution or, 2. They will solidify it for you at the cost of 3-5x’s the general per ton disposal fee. Here’s why…. If wet, sloppy materials are applied to a landfill an unsafe scenario is creating the possibility of “slide” or “collapse” within the landfill matrix and is a danger to the heavy equipment operators. In addition and from a landfill cost standpoint, liquids applied, filter thru to the bottom quickly and spill out as leachate. Landfill leachate because of its collective contaminants is an expensive waste stream to treat. How to avoid being rejected at the disposal site…. Use a suitable solidification material… Power Pellets quickly converts liquid to “non-liquids” therefore eliminating the opportunity for liquids to surface and appear within your waste stream during transport (vibration) where most of this problem occurs. Power Pellets is the most effective product available today typically requiring only about 7% by weight to manage sludge containing 50% moisture. That’s a big deal when the object is the reduce disposal fees by reducing the disposal weight right. Our goal is to reduce cycle costs of managing liquid waste destined for landfill. We do that thru the manufacturing of high performance drying products that require a considerably lesser amount of material to get the job done. Less material, less handling, less truck traffic, less liability, less disposal fees… The result: MORE MONEY IN YOUR POCKET 💰 💰 Check us out today at powerpellets.co Or call/text 724-316-8780 for details/samples to examine. #solidscontrol #sludge #solidification #slurry #landfills #hdd #hydroexcavation

The FP 1500 Temperature Sensor: The Perfect Solution for Incineration Plants and Waste Management The incineration of waste is a complex process that requires careful monitoring and control. One of the most important factors in incineration is temperature. Too high a temperature can cause the waste to burn incompletely, releasing harmful pollutants into the air. Too low a temperature can result in the waste not being incinerated completely, leaving behind harmful residues. The 1500 temperature sensor from Frode Pedersen is the perfect solution for incineration plants and waste management. This sensor is designed to withstand the high temperatures and harsh conditions found in incineration plants. It is also highly accurate and reliable, providing operators with the precise temperature data they need to ensure that the incineration process is operating correctly. Why is temperature important in incineration? Temperature is one of the most important factors in incineration. It affects the following: The 1500 temperature sensor from Frode Pedersen can help you to: - Ensure complete combustion - Reduce the formation of pollutants - Improve the efficiency of your incineration process Features of the 1500 temperature sensor: - Temperature range: 0-1100°C - Accuracy: ±0.5% - Response time: <1 second - Long service life - Easy to install Don't compromise on temperature precision. Choose the FP 1500 series for unrivaled performance and reliability in incineration plants and waste management facilities. https://lnkd.in/dCyCU7Fp #TemperatureMonitoring #WasteManagement #IncinerationPlant #FrodePedersen #TechInnovation

The Role of IT in Enhancing Water and Waste Management Systems As the global demand for water and efficient waste management grows, innovative IT solutions are becoming essential for optimizing these critical systems. Through advanced technologies such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote monitoring, and data analytics, IT enhances real-time decision-making and predictive maintenance. IT Solutions Revolutionizing Water and Waste Management CCTV Camera Surveys for Wastewater and Drainage Systems CCTV camera surveys are an important IT solution used in the inspection and maintenance of water and waste management systems. They offer several advantages, particularly in monitoring underground sewage and drainage systems, which are difficult to access and inspect manually. ✅ Identification of Blockages and Structural Issues CCTV cameras are inserted into underground pipelines to capture video footage of the interior. This helps identify issues like blockages, leaks, structural damage, and corrosion. The footage is analyzed to prioritize maintenance and repairs, reducing the risk of sewer overflows and environmental contamination. ✅ Preventive Maintenance Through regular CCTV inspections, utility companies can detect early signs of wear and tear, allowing them to schedule preventive maintenance before problems escalate. This proactive approach minimizes costly emergency repairs and improves system reliability. ✅ Integration with AI and Machine Learning Modern CCTV systems are integrated with AI algorithms that automatically detect anomalies such as cracks or blockages in pipelines. Machine learning can also predict future failures based on historical data, enabling preemptive action. Read More ➡ https://lnkd.in/dmWatgrE

Earlier today, I perused the ‘2024 Global Waste Management Outlook’ report for an upcoming high-level dialogue on #urbanwastemanagement. Indeed, the report jointly published by UNEP and ISWA makes for sobering reading. The findings of the report reveal some sobering #statistics: Municipal solid #waste generation is predicted to grow from 2.1 billion tonnes in 2023 to 3.8 billion tonnes by 2050. Without urgent action on #waste management, by 2050 the global annual cost could almost double to a staggering USD 640.3 billion. The report’s modelling shows that getting #waste under control by taking #waste prevention and management measures could limit net annual costs by 2050 to USD 270.2 billion. An aiding situation is that the report presents potential strategies for #waste reduction and enhanced management, following the #waste hierarchy, to treat all #waste materials as valuable resources. The clock is running out…the time for words has passed! I call on all individuals, leaders, governments, institutions to act now, and act boldly. It is still possible to create a better, more #sustainable and more #inclusive world for all by 2030. Access the report here: https://lnkd.in/eAW3bCeD
