I don't think quick commerce (10 minute delivery) in the fashion industry is sustainable. Here's why: Quick commerce has done wonders for groceries, but in fashion, it feels more like hype than a long-term solution. The key problem is consumer behavior. Fashion is personal—people want to try on clothes and see how they fit, which is why malls remain busy despite the popularity of shopping apps. E-commerce brands have succeeded by offering hassle-free returns, which is crucial for driving sales. In India, 25% to 40% of online fashion purchases are returned (Source: Rest of World), making returns essential to the shopping experience. Now, when you add 10-minute delivery into the mix, the model starts to break down. Quick commerce thrives on low logistics costs, but fast delivery for a ₹1499 t-shirt, coupled with the inability to offer free returns, becomes unsustainable. While there may be rare use cases for fashion emergencies, they don’t occur often enough to justify the infrastructure needed for this model. Moreover, fashion e-commerce companies are already offering same-day or next-day delivery for most items. The waiting time has been cut down drastically, so the added value of a 10-minute delivery is minimal, especially when consumers lose the flexibility to return or exchange items easily. Saying this, I’m so excited to see how companies will tackle this in the long term. The logistics tech in India is growing rapidly, and so is the Indian tech industry as a whole.
