Fast charging '#PitBoost' is set to enter select Formula E races in 2025, providing the race cars' batteries a 10% charge of 600 kW power in a 30 second pit stop. Kalmar 9x9: Retro Porsche 959 Homage With Double the Horsepower https://lnkd.in/ef7TC5mg If you want to build a retro hypercar with shades of 959, sticking a 930-horsepower turbocharged flat-six in the back is a good start. The 3.8-liter mill sends power to all four wheels through a dual-clutch transmission (there's no mention of where the gearbox was sourced). If that sounds like too much to handle, Kalmar will build a 9x9 Sport with 650 hp and a seven-speed manual. Or you can opt for the 9x9 Leichtbau—a lightweight version with a six-speed stick and a naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter engine driving just the rear wheels. Power isn't mentioned at this level, but Kalmar says the Leichtbau weighs 2,755 pounds. Regardless of the power, all 9x9s feature a full carbon-fiber body atop a bespoke double-wishbone pushrod suspension with adaptive dampers and rear-wheel steering. It has 3D-printed titanium brake calipers with ceramic discs, all mounted behind magnesium wheels. (...)

Formula One Cars with and without Wheel Covers! The journey of wheel covers in Formula One has seen both a ban and a reintroduction due to the sport’s evolving aerodynamic and safety priorities. Originally introduced in the mid-2000s to reduce drag and improve airflow around the wheels, wheel covers showed promise in aerodynamics. However, concerns grew over safety risks if they detached during races, leading to the ban in 2010 by the FIA. In 2022, the FIA reintroduced wheel covers under the updated technical regulations aimed at enhancing aerodynamics and enabling closer racing. The modern design promotes smoother airflow, reducing turbulence and allowing drivers to follow competitors more closely without losing performance. Aerodynamics: With vs. Without Wheel Covers With Wheel Covers: Reduced drag and smoother airflow along the side of the car, which can improve top speeds. Without Wheel Covers: Increased turbulence and drag, but improved brake cooling—important for high-braking circuits. Wheel covers are especially beneficial on high-speed tracks, like Monza, where top speed is essential. Teams may avoid them on circuits that demand more brake cooling due to heavy braking zones. The reintroduction of wheel covers reflects F1's continuous innovation to balance performance, safety, and race dynamics—key elements that make the sport so thrilling to follow! Let's take a closer look at the incredible machines that are F1 cars. **Design and Construction** F1 cars are designed and built to the highest standards of engineering excellence. The chassis of an F1 car is typically made from carbon fiber, a material that is incredibly strong and lightweight. This allows the car to be both rigid and aerodynamically efficient. The aerodynamics of an F1 car are crucial to its performance. The bodywork of the car is carefully sculpted to produce maximum downforce, which helps to keep the car glued to the track at high speeds. This downforce is generated by the front and rear wings, as well as the diffuser at the rear of the car. **Powertrain** The heart of an F1 car is its power unit, which consists of a highly sophisticated internal combustion engine paired with an energy recovery system. The Melkus RS 1000 is a unique sports car created in the limited automotive market of Eastern Europe. While only a few models, such as the Skoda 110 R, could lay claim to the title of sports car, in East Germany, engineer Heinz Melkus conceived and realized his vision of a dynamic coupe. He managed to convince the Wartburg factory to build a limited edition of his cars. The Melkus RS 1000 was based on the Wartburg 353. Melkus developed independent suspension at the front and rear, as well as installed crash bars and a five-speed close-ratio gearbox. Under the hood was a 992 cc engine, which had been boosted to 68 horsepower and was mounted behind the driver, allowing the power to be sent to the rear wheels, unlike the standard Wartburg 353. The body of the car was made of lightweight fiberglass, which not only reduced weight but also gave it a modern, low-profile look. In 1969, the Melkus RS 1000 was unveiled to the public, and for its time, it looked extremely progressive. However, despite its innovations, it suffered from a lack of power, which limited its potential on the race track. Production of the model ended in 1979 after only 101 units were built, due to the high price of the car by Eastern European standards.
