Today, I recognize one of my greatest career accomplishments: celebrating my 13th anniversary with my husband Robert Maloney. We actually met at work, but more significant is the time we have spent growing into leadership roles in different industries (he had a head start) during COVID, rapidly changing and uncertain workplace dynamics and evolving business structures -- while also raising a young family. When we do get quiet moments late at night, we commiserate over shared work challenges and celebrate each other's milestones. This has often reaffirmed our values that we hope to model for our children: - Pride in work. We don't take our responsibilities lightly or those of our teams'. - Humor. We might take our work seriously, but not ourselves and find the absurd in everything. - Mentorship. It shaped our own work ethic, and we wish we could find more space to guide our teams. - Resourcefulness. It's a lost art and why God invented Google. - Gratitude. We pause to remind ourselves of the privilege we've been given in our roles - even during moments of frustration. It's not been an easy road, and balance usually eludes us. We have different styles and approaches, but marriage -- like business partnerships - benefits from those who have complementary skills committed to a single mission and shared values. While this might all seem very unromantic, it's actually served us well in our personal and professional lives - and makes us appreciate each other more.

Today is my 8 year work anniversary at Douglas Stuart Ltd. This got me thinking... What is the average tenure of employment? UK - 10.1 years France - 10.4 years Germany - 11.1 years USA - 4.1 years Australia - 3.3 years Denmark - 8 years The average tenure of employment in the #Recruitment industry ranges between 2 to 4 years and the most common reasons for leaving are; 1. Career Advancement (lack of opportunity) 2. Work-Life Balance 3. Feeling Undervalued Which for me speaks volumes for the way Douglas Stuart Ltd. have supported me, given me the opportunity to develop, and thus the reason I'm 8 years in and still enjoying the journey.

Stacia Gerdts recently celebrated her 10-year anniversary working at Morningside. Congratulations, Stacia! We asked Stacia a series of questions about her time at Morningside over the years. Here's what she said: Q: What’s something you’ve done at Morningside that you’re proud of? A: Became a Program Manager Q: Do you have any advice for someone new to this field? A: Take it one day at a time, continue to be open to learning and growing, be patient with yourself, the people served and stakeholders and be present. You will be greatly rewarded by the relationships you build. Q: What originally brought you into this field and fueled your passion? A: I realized the industry I’d been in for 20+ years was drastically changing, and my current employer [at the time] was not. I felt I had two options; change employers to continue my career in that field or I could look for a whole new career, as I still had many, many, years to work. I had developed a strong relationship with Morningside for at least 10 years through my (previous) employer, and on a more personal level, I've had a desire to work with folks experiencing life differently since high school, and felt this was a good opportunity to take a risk. Q: What have you learned from your 10 years with Morningside? A: I couldn’t have imagined the personal growth I've made and the wonderful people I have had the pleasure of working with and getting to know. I am truly grateful to Morningside for believing in me and supporting my growth. I have learned everything! 😊 I had 0 experience before I came to Morningside and have learned so many things, I couldn't even begin to list them. Q: What has been your most impactful memory at Morningside? A: My most impactful memories are of the clients we serve, how it feels, and what a privilege it is for me to be a part of their successes and challenges, as well as see the pride they carry for [their] accomplishments. Yesterday we celebrated the one year work anniversary of one of our team members, Heidi. We were talking about how Oaktree started and I was telling the team about the idea for Oaktree and those early days. No clients. No revenue. In the early days Chris and I did it all. We had the time because we didn’t have a lot of client work yet. But growth required more than just us. To all the Lilly connections on here I know you know this. Your teams are critical to your success. No one does it alone. Everyone contributes. Everyone has a role. You don’t know everything others know and they don’t know everything you know. Together you’re a great team. This is true in families just as much as in business. A mom’s role and a dad’s role are different. Their skillsets are different. But both working together are critical to the success of the family. Growth and improvement requires teamwork professionally and personally. If you want a team that can partner with you to quarterback your financial life choose a partner that best plays that role. Most financial advisors are generalists. We are not.
