Get used to hearing the name Alex Dixon! He has been appointed CEO of Resorts World Las Vegas. I'm filled with immense pride to celebrate another WIN. My Howard University tribe is not playing. This achievement resonates deeply, as it adds another powerful chapter to our community's legacy in gaming leadership – a history that includes trailblazers like Norbert Simmons, who broke barriers as America's first Black casino owner, and Don Barden, who made history as Las Vegas's first Black casino owner. I recognize that Alex's appointment carries special significance. He joins the ranks of pioneers like Lorenzo Creighton, who shattered ceilings as the first Black gaming commissioner, creating pathways that seemed impossible when the Moulin Rouge made history as the first integrated casino in 1955. Alex, your journey from Howard's to MGM to Dubuque to the helm of Resorts World Las Vegas isn't just a personal triumph – it's a testament to the excellence that flows through our community's veins. The evening started with darts at “Flight Club” (Dom was victorious) and then on to a Greek restaurant for an amazing meal and traditional smashing of crockery (china being the traditional 20 year gift in these circumstances!). WOW, I know it’s LinkedIn but it’s a special moment to share. Isel Laguado, MPM and I both worked in the Cruise Idustry and as everyone knows our industry was dramatically hit due to Covid and 1,000’s of us were all laid off with a bleak future and so much uncertainty. I found myself with no job, no income, a single father with 2 children, times were tough and the light at the end of the tunnel was very distance. LinkedIn was my savior, my morning routine over coffee searching for employment opportunities, connecting with people, and that’s where I connected with Isel, we were both searching. She was a single mother with two children with the same challenges and struggles, We chatted, connected. encouraged each other to keep searching, sharing employment opportunity daily, and then I finally got the courage to say “hey let’s meet up” Well 4 years later we said “I do” on April 20th in a ceremony in Mexico City surrounded by family and friends celebrating our special day. We now both have amazing jobs back in the Crusie Industry that we both love and enjoy, are families are connected (blended 6) and we have never been happier. Thanks Linkedin for providing the hope and platform to motivate and inspire us to find work and connect with people when times are tough.
