We also miss her humor, her creativity, her spell-checks and wicked editing skills, her general coolness and her overall awesomeness. 🙌 Literally the team member we needed to grow and be better. 𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝘀: 'Office Manager / Team Assistant / Event Planner' We offered the person to decide themselves what the actual Job Title would be. ✅ We received a lot of applications = 88! After 10+ interviews, we could not have imagined hiring a better fit than Yoon. Who as a previous lawyer, chef, office manager and cat influencer - has become our rock. So happy she joined us! The Job Title became: 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 “𝗕𝗼𝘀𝘀-𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁” 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽? 🤔 Last week, while I was in Cebu, Philippines to present at a client’s offsite, I decided to fly my Executive Assistant in to Cebu, which is 1 hour from where she lives. And we met in person for the very first time. I hired her in April this year, and up until last week, we only communicated through Zoom, WhatsApp and email. This was the first time to meet in person. And it was great to finally meet. So, what then makes an effective “Boss-Executive Assistant” relationship? ⭕ First, I took my time to hire someone who is detailed-focused and can easily follow instructions. There was quite a thorough process in hiring. ⭕ Since I am a big picture thinker and have a very strong “Influence” personality type, I wanted someone who is more process focused and diligent, to complement my approach. ⭕ I wanted someone who doesn’t simply follow instructions like a robot, but rather someone who has their own ideas and willing to say, “Hey Grant, I have a better idea!” ⭕ And finally I wanted someone who isn’t afraid to ask questions because I believe questions are a power to more knowledge. On keeping two jobs simultaneously: Yes I know some people nowadays who do this but they're online jobs. I once had the opportunity to work two jobs. One was as an Editorial Analyst, meaning I was a writer and the other one was as an Editorial Assistant which also involved a thorough understanding of writing. But one was my day job (Editorial Assistant) meaning I had to be at work 8 to 5 day shift then commute to my night job (Editorial Analyst) around one hour away. At first, all was fine. But then we started to encounter problems such as my exhaustion. And my boss at the night job took me aside and said that he'd like me to give up my day job. I didn't take it that seriously until the Editorial Assistant job's editor also asked me to give up the night job. Simply put, each wanted exclusivity over my energies. I thought long and hard about it and realized I really wanted my night job more. Not that my day job was bad - it was interesting because I was surrounded by these beautiful models and talented employees and was learning how a publishing company works. But I favored my night job because it had more opportunities to earn, especially on weekends when my co-workers were treating the office like a fun party so it was a happy place to be in. Around two weeks after I gave up the day job, which was for the in-flight magazine of an airline, one of their planes crashed. That shook me to alertness. Apparently, God took me out of the way of harm that time. Everyone on board the plane died. And prior to my resignation the two editors informed me they would be sending me all over the Philippines on board the company's planes to write about stuff in those places. So it was good I did resign when I did. What did I learn? Well, I learned that having two jobs can only be conducive if you're online. Metro Manila traffic then and now was and is horrible so it cut into my work hours and it was so exhausting to commute. I also learned that sometimes God uses a certain event to make you see that it is usually advisable to only work two jobs if you really have to. I was so tired from my two jobs that it was a relief to work just the night job. It was also beneficial because I was then able to address my education and figure out why I needed to go back to school and how I could do that effectively and efficiently to qualify for better jobs later on.
