Awkward holiday conversations? They don’t have to happen. Professor Alison Wood Brooks shares practical strategies to transform gatherings into opportunities for meaningful and engaging discussions. Instead of defaulting to “How are you?” try more specific questions like, “What’s something you’re spending most of your time on?” Brooks emphasizes the importance of responsive listening, verbal responses that build on what others share, and confidently switching topics when conversations grow stale. Even small adjustments, like preparing thoughtful questions or reshuffling seating, can foster a more inclusive and enjoyable atmosphere. What’s your favorite holiday icebreaker?

The journey continues... Ever been in that place where you have to make things happen for others before making things happen for yourself? Ya that's the place of service. I'm often in this place ( with all the joy) In the Bible, it is written, "if any of you must be a leader, let him first serve". Until when you've put yourself in the place to serve, only then you become a true leader. This festive season, I know how much work I do, from organizing get togethers for different groups, planning and organizing family parties, cooking, attending functions etc, I still try to find time for myself 😁 So down to being a Virtual assistant, I'm still leading while serving.😁 And now I just joined a #7dayscontentchallengewithfortuna to keep improving myself and serve better on this space. At first, I thought to myself, will I really be able to go through this, but then, so far, I've been on the move, and this is me showing up again. Do you sometimes find yourself in the place of service too? share with me in the comments. #7dayscontentchallengewithfortuna #virtualassistant #service #day22consistencychallenge

In all the rush of daily life, when was the last time you sat down with someone you care about, not to solve a problem or handle logistics, but just to talk? The kind of talk that leaves you both smiling, feeling closer, maybe even seeing each other in a new light? 😊 I recently met Chris Burnett from that conversations movement over coffee at my favourite local cafe, Foodstory. We were introduced by a mutual friend over something we both really care about; creating spaces where people can have real, meaningful conversations with those who matter to them. 🤗 While The Wee Honesty Shed is taking a break from events (as I focus on TEDxAberdeen and growing baby no.2), I wanted to share what Chris is doing. His events have a simple but brilliant focus: helping you connect more deeply with people already in your life, the ones you might not get to have proper catch-ups with because life gets busy. If you'd like to spend some quality time with someone important to you this month, have a look at Chris's events below. It's a great chance to carve 90 minutes out of your day to have those conversations we often mean to have but never quite get around to. https://lnkd.in/e3Yt_6He #thatconversationevent #thatconversationmovement #conversationsthatmatter #aberdeenevents
