Hi Rowan, Thank you for sharing this video clip. Please allow me to tag along with your post on this important day of commemorating "Human Rights Day".I would like to draw parallels with Nelson Mandela's leadership principles as I share my thoughts below: My humble view on this clip is that, as leaders in the corporate world, we can learn from President Nelson Mandela's statement by understanding the importance of building trust and rapport with our employees. By demonstrating integrity, empathy, and a commitment to our employees' well-being, we can alleviate fears and create an environment where people feel valued and respected. This fosters a culture of collaboration and openness, leading to greater acceptance and support from team members. As leaders, we should avoid instilling fear rather than trust and respect, as often resorting to authoritarian or dictatorial tactics. Instead of fostering loyalty and collaboration, fear-based leadership can result in resentment, low morale, and decreased productivity among team members. Effective leaders understand the value of empowering their teams, promoting open communication, and leading by example rather than relying on fear tactics to maintain control. If all of us as leaders prioritise being liked over fostering healthy disagreement and constructive feedback, we will struggle to build trust with our teams, ultimately hindering the development of strong and high-performance teams. It's also my humble opinion that true leadership involves engaging with differing viewpoints, encouraging open dialogue, and valuing diverse perspectives. When we create an environment where team members feel safe to express their opinions, even if they disagree, they can demonstrate their commitment to collaboration and growth, ultimately earning the trust and respect of their teams. For all the excitement around a possible Kamala Harris presidency, this is what's on my mind (see Mandela quote below). We dare not linger. We have a saying in Trinidad & Tobago, "99 day fuh police, 1 day fuh t'ief". A thief, whether they come for your Amazon packages or your democracy, needs only to succeed once. So enjoy this moment of excitement and should she/we prevail, enjoy the celebration, but "dare not linger". There's work to be done "tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow", as the Bard would say. Remember that the fall of Roe took 50 years of consistent work and many, many losses. But they stayed true to their cause. We must do the same. Holding on to the gains will be the work of a lifetime, of several lifetimes. It is our work too, to fight for more; more equity, more access, more fairness. We can't have more if what little we do has is eroded. Know that the porch bandits are just looking for us to slip, looking for us to relax and let down our guard, so that they can steal what we've already bought and paid for. Govern yourselves and your voter participation behavior accordingly.
Dare Not Linger “I have discovered the secret that after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. I have taken a moment here to rest, to steal a view of the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come. But I can only rest for a moment, for with freedom comes responsibilities, and I dare not linger, for my long walk is not ended.” Nelson Mandela

How easily we can think something is impossible to achieve yet if we get on with it before we know it gets done! For me my mindset is key in overcoming internal or external obstacles. What is your experience? #mindset #icfcoaching

GREATNESS IS IN YOU Greatness is not reserved for a few—it exists within each of us, waiting to be realized. History shows that ordinary people have achieved extraordinary things through persistence and vision. Take Thomas Edison, for example, who failed over a thousand times before inventing the lightbulb. Similarly, Nelson Mandela endured 27 years of imprisonment, yet emerged as a global symbol of peace and perseverance, leading South Africa toward democracy. Even in nature, we find greatness—consider that tiny ants can carry objects up to 50 times their body weight, demonstrating how strength often comes in unexpected forms. The human brain, capable of generating 70,000 thoughts per day, gives us immense potential to create, innovate, and overcome obstacles. Just like these examples, greatness lies in your ability to keep pushing, learning, and believing in your potential. #Begreat #persistence #perseverance

“The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." This article explores the depth of Mandela's wisdom and reflects on its relevance today. Mandela's quote is a powerful reminder that life is filled with challenges, setbacks, and disappointments. Instead of seeking perfection and an error-free existence, the true measure of greatness lies in our ability to learn from our mistakes, overcome adversity, and keep moving forward. In short, it's not about the absence of failure, but rather the courage and determination to rise above it.“ Read more at: https://lnkd.in/emVME9Rs

Hello, my friends! It’s Dr. Emilio Justo here. 🌟 Today, I’m reflecting on Nelson Mandela's powerful words, 'It always seems impossible until it's done.' This quote has always spurred my ambition and lit the path during my darkest days. 🚀 Mandela’s wisdom is a beacon for us all, reminding us that the limits we face are often just illusions. 🌈 Expanding on this, I often say, 'The power to achieve lies in embracing the 'impossible,’ the audacity to step beyond limitations, and the patience to wait for the fruits of your efforts.' ✨ In every ‘impossible’ challenge lies an opportunity for growth, a testament to our inner strength and endurance. As we journey through life, let us remember these words and push beyond our perceived limits. 🏔️ With patience and perseverance, what seems unreachable becomes attainable. 💪 Let’s continue to break barriers, light up our darkest moments with the strength of our will, and patiently await the bloom of our hard work. 🌸 Keep shining, keep striving, and remember, in the pursuit of greatness, patience and perseverance are our greatest allies. ✊💖 #MotivationalMonday #InspirationalQuotes #NelsonMandela #EmbraceTheImpossible #Perseverance #Patience #Achievement #GrowthMindset #InnerStrength #BreakBarriers #SuccessMindset #DrEmilioJusto #Endurance #PersonalGrowth #InspirationDaily #Limitless #Ambition #Wisdom #PowerOfPatience #JourneyToSuccess #EmilioJustoMD

Embracing Emotional Strength: A Lesson from Nelson Mandela Nelson Mandela’s life is a powerful reminder that we can’t always control our circumstances, but we can control how we respond to them. Years ago, I visited Robben Island, where Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years in prison. Standing in his cell, imagining myself in his place, I realized something profound: you can imprison a person, but you can’t imprison greatness. Mandela never let what he couldn’t control hold him back. Instead, he focused on what could be and transformed the world in the process. That experience left me with important life lessons: Our surroundings don't define our spirit. People who devalue us don’t determine our worth. Even in the toughest times, our dreams can be born. Through our own brokenness, we can find wholeness and help others heal. Let’s stop wasting energy on things we can’t control and focus on what we can change. That’s the key to emotional strength and resilience. 💪 #Leadership #Resilience #NelsonMandela #EmotionalStrength #PersonalGrowth #MindsetMatters #OvercomingChallenges #DreamBig #StayStrong #PositiveMindset #Inspiration #FocusOnWhatMatters #LifeLessons #GrowthMindset #Motivation #SelfImprovement #InnerStrength #ChangeTheWorld #Empowerment #MentalToughness
