The Earth's perihelion distance is about 147,098,000 kilometers and its aphelion distance is about 152,098,000 kilometers. So, the change in distance is about 5,000,000 kilometers. Actually this is a bit too simplistic as the Earth's orbit undergoes precession and it is also perturbed by the gravitational pull of the other planets. For example the 2015 perihelion distance was 147,096,203.90 kilometers and the 2016 perihelion distance will be 147,100,175.85 kilometers. https://lnkd.in/ek2Ej3rm

Happy International Day for Human Space Flight! 🚀🧑🚀 On this occasion, let’s dive into the fascinating world of space exploration and the critical role of Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) in unraveling the mysteries of celestial bodies. 🛰️ Why FTIR Matters for Asteroid Ryugu Exploration? Ryugu, a C-type near-Earth asteroid, intrigued scientists when samples were returned by the Hayabusa2 mission and stored under nitrogen for preservation. FTIR analysis revealed hydroxyl groups, organics, and carbonates without damaging the samples. These findings, along with the asteroid's homogeneous nature and unique spectral signatures, provide insights into Ryugu's composition and history. Despite harsh space conditions, Ryugu's surface grains contain prebiotic molecules, offering hope for extraterrestrial life studies. 👽 Let’s celebrate the spirit of space exploration and scientific discovery! Remember, every FTIR scan brings us closer to understanding the cosmos. 🪐 Learn more about importance of FTIR in Solar System exploration from German Aerospace Center (DLR) scientists: https://lnkd.in/d6aN7d4U #InternationalDayOfHumanSpaceFlight #SpaceResearch #BepiColombo #InfraredSpectroscopy #Bruker #SpaceScience #AsteroidExploration #Ryugu #FTIR

Toward a New Theory of Earth Crustal Displacement Short-term reversals of the Earth’s geomagnetic field may ‘unlock’ the crust to allow tidal forces to move it in the same way they do the oceans. Sea-level changes might thus result from the buildup and melting of polar ice over Ice Ages by the Earth’s cyclical orbital movements combined with pole shifts. https://lnkd.in/dGGN6jQD and an archival copy: https://archive.ph/m3EPF

The Great Red Spot is the largest storm in the solar system, twice as big as Earth, and the winds of the Great Red Spot rage at around 270 to 425 miles per hour, up to 3.5 times as fast as a tornado here on Earth.

I put this up, as this week it appears after a sun-diving comment we had a largeish CME thankfully directed away from us. Especially with our rapidly weakening magnetosphere, which the IPCC has never modelled. Nothing on the scale of 774AD. But you look at the sun videos of the one that was away from us last week, was far bigger than the very low-level ones that gave us those massive auroras a few weeks back , whenfacing us. Maybe mainstream science like mainstream medicine is diverted by the grant process so only certain agendas are presented and we hardly ever get real data. Was the 774AD event from something big that crashed into the sun, a far-bit . coment or an asteroid, and did it occlude the sun's surface and result in an ejection? Plus maybe not a single one. We play Russian roulette with the sun every day of our lives, especially in our electrical society https://lnkd.in/geCeGqwe

Over the past few days, scientists have observed a series of unusually strong solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs) around the Sun. These eruptions can cause geomagnetic storms on Earth, which are what create displays of aurora borealis or the Northern Lights, as well as aurora australis in the Southern Hemisphere. Northern lights could be visible as far south as Texas due to the severe solar storms. https://lnkd.in/edEYW7Sh
