WHAT DOES A SOUVENIR PROGRAM COST? I had somebody come up to me at one of our shows and ask “why is the program was $25?” They thought this was expensive and should be free! It got me thinking about how do we let our patrons know the true value and cost of producing merchandise and in particular programs? So I thought I would break it down and discuss Printing $2-$4 (lets say $3) GST $2.27 Venue Commissions 10 - 20% ($3.75) averaging at 15% Design $2000 (at a minimum) Photos $1000 (at a minimum) Time LOTS Cost of the seller $40 - $60 an hour (determined by venues) So if you’re putting on a show and only need to do 1000 programs, that $25 price only equates to about $13 in profits before you’ve paid the merch seller $160 to sell them… so you’ve gotta sell 12.5 a night before you’re even making money from them. This also doesn’t factor in the time it takes co-ordinating it all! So what what have we done? 1.) Offered a digital program that comes at a cost! Your email address so we tell you about our upcoming shows. 2.) Still offered physical programs for those who like to keep a physical souvenir. 3.) Send out the digital program free to ticket buyers who opted in to receive marketing materials. So what do you think a program is worth? #EventMerchandise #CostBreakdown #TheatreProducing

OK - so what happens when you turn up to exhibit at a conference and your exhibition stand sent via Parcelforce has turned into a Dyson hoover battery!!? Well that's exactly what happened to us yesterday at the #HEMarketingConference. Surely this must be a mistake!! No - the parcel tracking number on the box matches our exhibition stand tracking number - it really is /was our exhibition stand. Realisation sets in... how on earth have Parcelforce mixed up a 2x3 metre exhibition stand with a hoover battery?? 😬 🤷♂️ Now what do we do? The exhibition stand also had all our marketing bits and pieces (brochures etc) in its box. We literally had nothing - apart from a hoover battery which didn't even have our Pathways logo on it! Just as we were about to give up hope and vow never to use ParcelForce again, Janica H. from #HEMarketingConference appeared with our stand! 😅 😃 Phew - Thanks so much Janica H. You saved us from exhibiting a hoover battery with someone else's logo on it! BTW - if anyone is missing a Dyson hoover battery - we have one I'd be more than happy to pass on.
