As today marks the first day of #TransAwarenessWeek, DTL would like to shine a light on the challenges faced by trans people today. There has been a troubling rise in anti-trans rhetoric across online spaces in recent years, and sadly, discrimination continues to impact trans lives in schools, workplaces, and communities. Despite years of advocacy, NSW still lacks strong legal protections for trans individuals, leaving many vulnerable to mistreatment, discrimination and exclusion. One step we can all take? Use correct pronouns and respect people’s identities—these simple acts can make a world of difference. Let’s support trans rights, amplify trans voices, and work toward a world that’s inclusive and safe for everyone. #TransRightsAreHumanRights #ProtectTransYouth

Awareness isn’t a moment; it’s a movement. Yesterday, we stood in solidarity on Transgender Day of Remembrance. But the fight for trans rights doesn’t end there. Awareness means understanding the barriers trans people face daily. It’s about amplifying their voices, fighting for equality, and ensuring safety. Start conversations that challenge biases and build understanding. Push for inclusive policies in your community and workplace. Let’s make awareness an ongoing responsibility—not just a one-day commitment. Together, we can create a world where trans lives are respected and valued. #TransAwareness #InclusiveAction #MIST #SupportTransRights #EqualityForAll

If awareness isn’t followed by action, is it really awareness? This isn’t just another event on the calendar. It’s a chance to recognize the struggles, celebrate the resilience, and commit to the ongoing fight for trans rights. Too often, trans voices are silenced. Their experiences dismissed. This week, let’s change that. ✅ Use your voice to advocate for inclusive policies. ✅ Call out harmful stereotypes and discrimination when you see them. ✅ Educate yourself—so your allyship isn’t performative, but powerful. It’s not just about being aware for a week—it’s about standing up, every single day. Ready to turn your support into action? 💙 #TransAwarenessWeek #TransRightsAreHumanRights #AllyshipInAction #MIST

Today is International Trans Day of Remembrance Today we honour lives that ended too soon. We pause to remember the lives of trans and non-binary people who have been lost to transphobic violence. Today is a day for somber reflection, solidarity, and a renewed commitment to a future free from discrimination - and the violence it leads to. It’s also a day to remember the trailblazers who have fought for trans rights. We acknowledge the courage of so many who came before us - whose contributions paved the way to greater inclusion, awareness & progress. As we remember those who have been lost, we also re-commit to doing what we can to build a more inclusive world. -Advocating for trans rights -Challenging prejudice whenever and wherever it occurs -Building safe community spaces for trans people to live authentically and thrive If you want to gather with community today, Transgender Victoria is holding a vigil in Fitzroy this evening. Welcome to a rather chaotic edition of Trans Awareness Month! For my US peers, buckle up for a tense next few weeks regardless of results. Our community will stay strong no matter what others say. To all peers, allies and friends/families of trans and queer folks: Be supportive by using the names, pronouns, and other identifiers that are present and visible and *never* assume you can defer to what you maybe knew someone as before. Pro tip: If you knew of someone under a different name/pronouns, but didn't know their current identifiers until you interact with them again **but** they introduce themselves, use those words. Otherwise it is what we call deadnaming and misgendering! And that is harmful and dangerous (especially) now and always. #transrights #visibility #safety #election #lgbt #transatwork #equality

The rise of anti-trans and gender-expansive rhetoric isn't new but in action, it does violate people's human rights. Often leading to poverty, isolation, and even homelessness. Trans rights and gender expression are human rights. Learn more: https://loom.ly/k0L9XRA
