The recent WIPO study highlights how organizations like Research4Life are crucial for supporting equity in publishing by providing free/low-cost access to research to low- or middle-income countries. Wiley's partnership with R4L, alongside numerous other contributing publishers, has significantly boosted scientific output by up to 75% in LMICs. Lowering barriers and enhancing global research collaboration is an important step to equity in publishing. https://ow.ly/vEGz50SzaK5

Can't wait to dig into this special issue of the Journal of Science Communication! You should also check out the special #SciPEP report "Insights and Practical Considerations for Communicating Basic Science" https://lnkd.in/dYGuuzs4 #SciComm
It's been a year-long effort by many scholars and practitioners of scicomm, but the special discovery science issue of the open-access Journal of Science Communication is online (ahead of print) this morning. You'll find thought-provoking essays, commentaries, research, and practice insights in this special issue at https://lnkd.in/d_Qnc98d . The issue will also be printed, and will be distributed to (among others) attendees of the upcoming symposium on communicating discovery science next month at Stellenbosch University. Immense gratitude to the ace editorial team at JCOM, to the scientific committee who helped in the selection and framing of content (T.Y. Branch, Julia Cramer, Jeanne Garbarino, Marina Joubert, Sara Yeo), to colleagues working with Marina at Stellenbosch University (Linka Maritz and Nicola Davies-Laubscher), and to The Kavli Foundation for its generous support of this issue.

Every time you use non-peer-reviewed papers (including arXiv!) as evidence for a claim in your scientific work, a reviewer dies. They die also if the paper has indeed been peer-reviewed, but you don't bother to cite the peer-reviewed version and just lazily refer to the arXiv version. Why do we even spend time reviewing papers for conferences, often in our free time and weekends, if you don't even bother acknowledging peer-reviewed venues as reputable sources? Don't kill reviewers. Cite responsibly. [Public Service Announcement for a healthier publication environment]

Did You Know? The foundation of the open-access movement was laid in the early 2000s through three key declarations that outlined the principles and goals of open-access publishing: The Budapest Open Access Initiative (Feb 2002) The Bethesda Statement on Open Access Publishing (Jun 2003) The Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge (Oct 2003) These milestones defined open access as unrestricted online access to scholarly research, transforming how knowledge is shared globally. . . . #OpenAccess #ScholarlyPublishing #AcademicResearch #OpenScience #ResearchInnovation #CureusJournals
