The recently crowned Investor of the year by Estonian Startup Awards, Helery Pops needs no introduction in the Baltic ecosystem. A true jack of all trades, successfully navigating the different hats she has worn, and seems she is a master of many of them! As one of the first recordings in our series, we sat down with Freddie to understand what is means to learn on the job in VC. With her earlier career in commercial roles in Pipedrive and Ampler bikes, Helery truly took on a huge learning curve in co-founding and leading investments at Honey Badger Capital. Where do you start when learning about VC? How to be successful in starting from scratch? And what does it all have to do with impact and sustainability - have a listen! https://lnkd.in/dN8EB6Qi

You know what would help the founder? A coach. There is an over-estimation of the board's expertise (or time available) to coach the founder on acceptable behaviours. Difficult founders most likely weren't always difficult. There was a point, and probably a number of points, in time where they chose the difficult path. And on it went... Coaches can help them backtrack, and lift their capability in connection, communication, acceptable behaviours, professional relationships, and finding the right people in their community. So that they don't become a liability to their own business. There should be a book about this!! Oh wait, there is. I wrote it two years ago for exactly this reason. To prevent challenging behaviours and lift capability. It's called: "Legendary Leadership in Scaleups. Why founders become a liability and how to prevent it." You can get it here: https://lnkd.in/eMbD2xS If you'd like to learn more about how I help founders, boards, advisors, investors - call me, I'd love to chat. marybutler.net Craig Blair Simon Wright
Craig Blair, one of the country’s leading venture capitalists says visionary founders with problematic behaviours should be accommodated so they can generate rich returns, not pushed out of their companies. Yolanda Redrup wrote the story. https://lnkd.in/gMTe8yE7
Airtree partner says ‘problematic’ founders can still be accommodated

The first venture capital firm, American Research and Development Corporation (ARDC), was founded in 1946 by Georges Doriot. ARDC played a pivotal role in financing the growth of numerous innovative companies, including Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), paving the way for the modern venture capital industry.
