A friendly reminder from the NDUR Team to our Community (and anyone who needs to hear it): As the New Year begins, it’s easy to feel the weight of expectations: resolutions, goals, and the pressure to transform into a ‘new you.’ But let me remind you—there’s nothing wrong with the current you. You don’t have to change anything unless you want to. Your resolutions don’t have to be about stopping something or fixing something. They can be about embracing new joys, nurturing what already makes you happy, or simply giving yourself permission to be. And if you don’t feel like making resolutions at all, that’s perfectly okay, too. This year, let’s celebrate progress in all its forms, even if that’s just staying exactly where you are and giving yourself the grace to rest. You’re enough, just as you are. Here’s to a year of doing what feels right for you. 💛

In 2005, Peter Beasley made history as the first Black member of the Society of Information Management (SIM) Dallas Chapter. His mission? To open doors for fellow Black IT professionals in an industry known for its lack of diversity. But instead of support, Peter faced retaliation. His attempts to foster inclusivity were met with public shaming, financial ruin, and hefty court battles. He lost everything—except his unwavering will to fight back. Fast forward to today: Peter Beasley is not just surviving; he's thriving. As the co-founder of BUiLT (Blacks United in Leading Technology), he's turned his personal adversity into a powerful movement, empowering Black tech professionals across the nation. Let’s Keep the Momentum Going – Our Story Deserves to Be Heard It was inspiring to see so many Latino and Latina leaders show up for the City of Austin’s Hispanic Heritage Month proclamation reading last week. I know everyone’s schedules are packed, and there was a lot happening, but we should have had twice the turnout at City Hall. Next year, let’s make it a goal to double our attendance. Our community needs to be seen, heard, and represented. With our growing population, thriving businesses, rising educational achievements, and cultural influence, we have a powerful story—but all of it only matters if we actively engage in civic spaces and amplify our voices. We also need to show more support for the Hispanic events and activities happening around us throughout the year. This year’s Hispanic Heritage Month was nothing short of amazing, filled with culture, vibrant events, music, food, and community. It felt like there were more celebrations than ever before, making it one of the most dynamic months I can remember! I tried to attend as many events as I could, but there were so many great experiences that I couldn’t get to them all. How about you? Did it feel the same way for you? To me, this year’s celebrations were among the most exciting and memorable yet! We’ve made a great start, Raza, but the energy we’ve built needs to carry on for the next 11 months. Now, more than ever, we must stay united and push forward. It’s time to take control of our own narrative. This is our story—and we should be the ones telling it.
