⚠️ Environmental disaster we face every day !! The burning of plastic waste 💣 is a catastrophic practice fueled by a lack of awareness and effective solutions. It has severe consequences for human health and the environment, contributing to air pollution, global warming, and climate change. The dangers include: Release of Toxic Substances ☠️: Burning plastic releases harmful chemicals like dioxins, furans, and PCBs, which are linked to serious health issues such as cancer, respiratory disorders, reproductive problems, and nervous system damage. Fine Particulate Matter: The process also produces fine particles (PM2.5 and PM10) that penetrate deep into the lungs, causing chronic inflammation and leading to severe cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Air Pollution: Large quantities of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and other pollutants are emitted, further degrading air quality. Soil and Water Contamination: The ash left behind often contains toxic substances that can leach into the soil and water, posing a significant threat to plants, animals, and ecosystems. Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Burning plastic contributes significantly to the release of greenhouse gases like CO2 and methane, exacerbating global temperature rise. Climate Change Acceleration: These emissions drive more extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and disruptions in ecosystems. At Tilestic , we are committed to providing sustainable and effective solutions ♻️ to the growing problem of single-use plastic waste. We strive to reduce the harmful practice of burning plastic waste, maximize its economic value, and raise awareness of its dangers. World Earth Day 2024: Joining Forces Against Plastics Pollution In 2024, World Earth Day isn't just another date on the calendar; it's a powerful reminder of our duty to protect our planet. This year, the spotlight is on a critical issue: plastics pollution. Under the banner "Planet vs Plastics," we're called to confront a threat that's impacting every corner of our world. Plastics pollution isn't just harming the environment; it's hurting us all. Picture the sea turtle struggling to free itself from a plastic bag mistaken for food. Imagine the fish ingesting microplastics, only to end up on our dinner plates. It's a cycle of harm that affects not just wildlife, but our own health and well-being. But it's not all doom and gloom. We have the power to make a difference, starting with awareness. By sharing stories, hosting discussions, and educating ourselves and others, we can shine a light on the true cost of plastics pollution. When we understand the impact, we're compelled to act. Taking action means more than just recycling our plastic bottles (though that's a good start). It means rethinking how we use plastics in the first place. It means supporting businesses that prioritize sustainability and advocating for policies that hold polluters accountable. Every choice we make, no matter how small, sends a message. And let's not forget the power of community. When we come together for beach cleanups, neighborhood recycling drives, or local activism, we amplify our impact. We show the world that we're united in our commitment to a cleaner, healthier planet. So, as we mark World Earth Day 2024, let's do more than just pay lip service to the cause. Let's roll up our sleeves and get to work. Let's be the change we wish to see in the world. Together, we can turn the tide on plastics pollution and create a brighter future for generations to come. Happy world earth day to my LinkedIn community! 🌍🚫 This year's global theme is 'Planet vs. Plastics', focusing on the threat posed by plastic pollution to our planet's health and biodiversity. So I wanted to share some facts about the global impact of plastic pollution: 🏭 For every 1 tonne of plastic produced, 2.5 tonnes of CO2 is generated. It is derived from fossil fuels, and its production consumes substantial energy- perpetuating its reliance on non-renewable resources. 🐟 Annually, over 8 million pieces of plastic pollution infiltrate our oceans. Alarmingly, only 1% of this plastic is visibly afloat, with the majority having disintegrated and submerged to the ocean floor. Taking upwards of 700 years to degrade into microplastics, these particles are ingested or absorbed by marine organisms, disrupting their biological functions to absorb CO2 . Surfers Against Sewage report 1 in 3 fish caught for human consumption is now contaminated by plastic. ♻️ The disposal of plastic in landfills releases methane, a potent greenhouse gas, during decomposition, exacerbating climate change. 🔥 Did you know: 2023 was officially declared the hottest on record by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). This dire milestone witnessed unprecedented climate anomalies, including heightened ocean temperatures, sea level escalation, Antarctic sea ice depletion, and glacier recession. 🌱 The recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report issues a stark warning: urgent measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are imperative to avert a projected 3.2°C temperature rise by 2100, with catastrophic implications for ecosystems and humanity. We have the power to take meaningful action, from reducing personal consumption of single-use plastics, separating and recycling plastic waste, to advocating for sustainable operations at work. #WorldEarthDay #PlanetvsPlastics #Sustainability #ClimateAction

Happy Earth Day! The theme this year is Planet vs Plastics calling to advocate for widespread awareness on the health risk of plastics and aiming for a bold 60% reduction of plastic production by 2040. Why Planet vs Plastics? Did you know that worldwide - one million plastic bottles are purchased every minute? That by 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than there are fish (by weight) if the current trend of plastic pollution isn't stopped. Thousands of sea animals are killed by either ingesting plastic or becoming entangled in it and people are impacted by consuming affected seafood. Single use plastic is produced from fossil fuels, which emits greenhouse gases keeping the Earth's temperature warmer than it would otherwise be. This in turn leads to climate change and natural disasters. Climate change impacts everybody, including koalas. Read more about the day here. www.worldearthday.org

Happy Earth Day! The theme for World Earth Day 2024 is our Planet versus Plastics. It is important to keep raising awareness on climate change and the impact it has on our planet. Plastic pollution is linked to climate change in different ways: ⚠ Plastic is mainly made from chemicals sources such as fossil fuels. ♻ A small percentage of plastics are recycled. The majority of plastics go to landfill for incineration or are just dumped. 🌊 A lot of plastic ends up in our rivers and oceans, endangering animals and the overall aquatic ecosystem, releasing greenhouse gases as it slowly breaks down. 🆘 Sunlight and heat causes plastic to release methane and ethylene which have a significant impact on climate change (according to Massachusetts Institute of Technology 25 times the rate of carbon dioxide). ☣ Open burning of plastic releases a poisonous cocktail of chemicals, resulting in black carbon, contributing to global warming up to 5,000 times greater than carbon dioxide (https://bit.ly/3W2Jp2i World Economic Forum). 💡 It is important to become aware of limiting unnecessary single-use plastics, e.g. limiting the use of plastic drinking straws, cutlery and us reusable bags for shopping, consume less chewing gum (yes these also contain plastic). Where we recommend checking out the webpage on this from Iberdrola https://bit.ly/4b25TEO which contains some useful tips around limiting the use of plastic. 🌐 Climate change creates real-world implications, such as wildfires and floods, which can have significant impact on our daily lives (as some of us recently experiences). 🗺 On this day, take a moment to educate yourself on climate change and how we could combat climate change by changing our behavior and be more mindful on the impact of our actions. #EarthDay2024 #TakeAction #CombatClimateChange #PlanetvsPlastic #Xange_com
