As we approach Christmas Party Season, lets all take a step back and think how we can make these events even more inclusive and enjoyable for all! 🔵 Have you invited those employees on Maternity/Paternity/Parental Leave - lets face it they would probably welcome a few hours out of the house - plus its a great way to keep in touch and ease back into the workplace. 🔵 Have you invited those who don't work full time (and Friday's or day's that the parties fall on are not their normal working days) - lets not forget about and exclude flexible workers. 🔵 "Drinking Culture" is not as it used to be, many more of our teams don't drink. Make sure that you cater equally for those who don't drink when asking about dietary requirements as well! The same goes for cultural differences where alcohol isn't allowed. Maybe consider "Alcohol Free tables" at dinner when like minded people can sit together? Ultimately these events are a chance to unwind, and have fun as a team. Stay safe everyone and enjoy yourselves and celebrate those amazing achievements of the year. #Teamwork #Culture #Diversity #Inclusion #DontBeAGrinch

Celebrating Fairness in the Workplace National holidays should be a time for everyone to pause, recharge, and celebrate. When some teams are given the break while others are left to work, it raises questions about equality and morale. Every department’s contributions matter, and fairness in holiday policies reflects true respect for all. Let’s strive for workplace practices that value and uplift every team equally. #WorkplaceEquality #FairnessMatters #EmployeeWellbeing #InclusiveWorkplace #HolidayBalance #RespectAtWork #StrongerTogether

Festive season fact: Building empathy into organisational DNA is as important as external initiatives🎄 While many companies promote their commitment to #DEI and accessibility, true inclusion starts with how your own direct teams are treated all year round. Often practical support falls by the wayside during certain seasons of life, such as temporary disability, parental leave, relocation and...the year-end crunch. But a genuinely supportive workplace: → Anticipates transitions → Proactively plans for accommodations → Provides flexible work arrangements → Has adaptable workspaces → Understands that needs change over time → Holds leadership accountable It is possible to make it personal, not just policy. PS: Wishing everyone a safe, restful festive period!

The Workplace Conflict of Holiday Leave. Who Gets Priority? "Parents should get priority over child-free colleagues when booking annual leave." That was the hot topic on the radio this morning, and it’s sparking plenty of debate. On one side, parents often need specific time off during school holidays not just to juggle work and family responsibilities but because it might be their only opportunity to take a family holiday together. On the other, colleagues without children might feel frustrated if their own preferences are sidelined. 👩💼 What’s really at play here? Workplace conflict. This kind of tension isn’t just about holiday dates. It’s about fairness, communication, and understanding. When left unaddressed, issues like this can create resentment, impact team morale, and even lead to bigger workplace conflicts. So how can organisations handle it better? 👉 Set clear policies: Transparent rules around holiday allocation help manage expectations and reduce feelings of favouritism. 👉 Foster open dialogue: Don't make assumptions about the needs of your colleagues. Encourage teams to discuss their needs and compromises in a respectful, constructive way. 👉Encourage proactive planning: Support employees in discussing holiday plans early to avoid last-minute clashes and build understanding across the team. (This strategy has worked personally for teams that I have managed.) 👉 Acknowledge everyone’s perspective: Recognise that both parents and child-free employees have valid priorities, whether it’s family obligations or well-deserved rest. This isn’t just about who gets the beach in July. It’s a reminder that how we handle seemingly small disputes in the workplace can set the tone for how teams collaborate and thrive. 🤔 Over to you: What’s your take on this? Should parents get priority for annual leave during school holidays, or should it be first come, first served? How does your workplace manage this? #ConflictResolution #WorkplaceCulture #TeamDynamics
