How do we unpack sustainability impact? One way is by helping brands measure the environmental impact of their packaging. At Berlin Packaging | Dangerous Goods, we use life-cycle assessments (LCAs) to quantify a product’s environmental impact over the course of its entire life cycle, including materials, sourcing, manufacturing, distribution, and end-of-life. This allows brands to understand their product impact across multiple environmental metrics such as greenhouse gas emissions, water use, mineral resource use, and fossil fuel use. Our process aligns with ISO 14040 guidelines. With these quantifiable and fact-based metrics, we empower brands to make informed decisions on their packaging choices. We help develop sustainable packaging strategies and roadmaps, ensuring a responsible and impactful approach to packaging solutions. 🔧🌍 Ladies and Gentleman, we now have the right to repair! The Council of the European Union has officially adopted the "Right to Repair" Directive, marking a significant milestone towards a more sustainable and circular economy. It aims to facilitate a more sustainable and circular economy. This directive ensures that consumers can more easily access repair services for their products, making repairs more accessible, transparent, and attractive. By enhancing consumers' rights to repair instead of replace their items, the directive seeks to reduce waste and promote environmental responsibility. This initiative represents a significant step towards sustainability and resource efficiency within the EU. The directive introduces tools and incentives to make repair more attractive for consumers: 1. Manufacturers are required to repair products that are technically repairable under EU law. 2. A voluntary repair form will be available, providing clear information about the repair process, including deadlines and prices. 3. A European online platform will be established to help consumers easily find repair services. 4. If consumers choose repair over replacement, the legal guarantee will be extended by 12 months. Kudos to the EU for leading the way in promoting sustainability and consumer rights! Let's continue to support initiatives that drive positive change for our planet. #CircularEconomy #RightToRepair #Sustainability #EU #EnvironmentalResponsibility #ConsumerRights #GreenFuture https://lnkd.in/dNy-WMbM.

➡ Laws and regulations are one track. ⬅ The other track is consumer trends and needs. That is why the voices of the market and end users are so important to us. At one of the recent international industry meetings with WPO World Packaging Organisation and Polska Izba Opakowań we've been discussing the changes in the household packaging market. The focus was raised on the issue of small packaging for concentrates of commonly used chemicals. 🤔 The perspective of a great interest in these seems a little puzzling, but also promising. Will there really be a preponderance of consumer choice for a smaller, environmentally friendly package with a simple screw cap, or will there be a primary desire to purchase the finished product directly for use? Curious to know your thoughts... #ecodesign #plasticsindustry #plasticpackaging #packaging #packagingindustry #designedforrecycling #householdpackaging

Today, we welcome the adoption of the #Ecodesign Sustainable Products Regulation #ESPR by the European Parliament. The new ESPR product-specific rules will help design more sustainable products and improve the circularity of those already within supply chains. We will actively follow the implementation of rules on the destruction of unsold goods and the development of the Digital Product Passport (DPP). We look forward to the Council of the EU’s approval of the provisional agreement & continuing our dialogue with EU policymakers on ESPR. https://bit.ly/3xGiwH9

Yesterday marked an important milestone towards the adoption of new EU #packaging rules. But will the #PPWR really deliver a common set of rules to advance packaging sustainability across the EU or shall we still expect divergent national measures? My comment in today’s FT.

📣 Major Milestone in Sustainable Packaging Regulation! 🌍 On March 4, 2024, the Council's presidency and the European Parliament’s representatives reached a provisional political agreement on a proposal for a regulation on packaging and packaging waste. This is a significant step towards tackling the increase in packaging waste generated in the EU, harmonizing the internal market for packaging, and boosting the circular economy. The proposal takes into account the full life-cycle of packaging. It establishes requirements to ensure that packaging is safe and sustainable, by requiring that all packaging is recyclable and that the presence of substances of concern is minimized. It also lays down labeling harmonisation requirements to improve consumer information. In line with the waste hierarchy, the proposal aims to significantly reduce the generation of packaging waste by setting binding re-use targets, restricting certain types of single-use packaging, and requiring economic operators to minimise the packaging used. The deal reached today is provisional, pending formal adoption by both institutions. Key elements of the agreement include: Sustainability requirements and recycled content in packaging Strengthened requirements for substances in packaging Headline targets for minimum recycled content in plastic packaging for 2030 and 2040 New rules to reduce unnecessary packaging New binding re-use targets for 2030 and indicative targets for 2040 This agreement is a major step forward in our journey toward a more sustainable future. Let’s continue to innovate and drive change in the packaging industry! 💪 The whole article you can read here: Packaging: Council and Parliament strike a deal to make packaging more sustainable and reduce packaging waste in the EU - Consilium (europa.eu) Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development! #sustainablepackaging #circulareconomy #recycling #euregulations
