On November 12th, COFI / Canada Wood Japan celebrated its 50th anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, the Canada - Japan Wood Forum was held at the Embassy of Canada in Tokyo, with presentations on forest sustainability, construction innovation and trade partnerships. COFI Japan has played an instrumental role in the adoption of wood building codes in Japan, broadening awareness of 2x4 homes, testing fire and seismic resistance, and extensive research and development of structural assembly systems. These efforts paved the way for expanding wood construction in multi-family, midrise and non-residential buildings, using high-grade BC wood products. Check out this video highlighting 50 years of COFI in Japan:

**Structural Fire Engineering for safer, more sustainable tunnels!** Yesterday, Thomas Thienpont had the opportunity to present our group’s work on the assessment of concrete tunnels in fire at the World Tunnel Day, organized by ABTUS-BVOTS - the belgian tunnel association -. Our research highlights how: - Structural Fire Engineering provides deeper insights into the fire performance of concrete tunnels compared to traditional design methods. - This approach enables optimized fire protection strategies, leading to designs that are not only safer but also more cost-effective and sustainable. Grateful to contribute to the conversation on sustainability in underground infrastructure! 🔥

This series of ‘Climate impact on Building performance’ by the team at WAIN MOREHEAD ARCHITECTS Ltd is fascinating. 🌎☁️🌦️🏡 Seems so logical to only design houses that will compliment and adjust to the environment both aesthetically and in performance, particularly with so many microclimates in Ireland - who knew? 🇮🇪 We design clothing for different levels of endurance and conditioning so it seems only fitting that we do the same for dwellings. My mind is always blown by the amount of technical, practical, environmental and design knowledge required by architects to be able to design a house that will perform as intended, become a home that can endure the stress of external factors as well as maintaining equilibrium with the changing internal conditions, energy levels and still deliver on performance. 💫 I’m even more in awe when these houses are cleverly designed to compliment families and their changing needs, are a thing of beauty in a landscape, use sustainable materials and practices, and still have the highest performing quality that can save on energy bills and reduce negative impact on climate with a passive house stamp. ♻️💥 the epitome of balance 🧘 Design for purpose is more important than ever when we consider and focus on creating sustainable solutions and I love seeing more and more people appreciate the mastery behind Architecture and design. No-one I would trust more to design a perfect home that will last, evolve and give back more than it takes. 🌿🌱🌞🌝 10/10 ⭐️
