Did you know that the practice of using wool from sheep dates back over 10,000 years? This makes sheep one of the earliest animals to be domesticated for agricultural purposes. Interestingly, there are over 1,000 different breeds of sheep worldwide, and they produce more than just wool and meat - sheep milk is also used to make cheese like Roquefort, Pecorino, and Feta. #fridayfact #lamb #sheep

Did you know that cows' four-compartment stomachs have super powers? Their unique digestive systems allow them to graze many native forages that humans can't digest. In fact, 90% of what cattle eat is indigestible by humans. Cattle turn nutritionally low-value grasses, plants, etc., into a protein-rich product that we enjoy as beef. Happy Beef Month! "𝐁𝐞𝐞𝐟.𝐜𝐨𝐦 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐒 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧 – 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐬" The story of American beef starts with the hardworking cattlemen and ranchers who raise the finest cattle in the world. Yet, despite their essential role, many feel squeezed out of their rightful share of the industry’s profits. Recently, we posted on the topic of "COOL: Country Of Origin Labeling" as it pertains to the best interests of the US Cattlemen industry. Today, we look at the pricing and profit challenges within the industry. 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: 🔸 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧’𝐬 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞: Ranchers often sell their cattle at auction or directly to packers at prices that barely cover costs. While retail beef prices soar, the ranchers who bear the risk and labor see little of the reward. 🔸 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬’ 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞: Dominated by a few large corporations, beef distribution and processing wield immense control over pricing. Many cattlemen argue that these distributors use their market dominance to suppress the prices paid to ranchers while enjoying significant profits at the retail level. 🔸 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: This pricing disparity creates an uneven playing field, leaving independent cattlemen vulnerable to market volatility. The question arises: how can we ensure fair compensation for those at the very foundation of this industry? 💡 𝐁𝐞𝐞𝐟.𝐜𝐨𝐦 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐚 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐟 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲.
