Preparing for today's ERSA conference. Looking forward to a day of transformative discussions inspired by the Get Britain Working White Paper. St Giles Trust's Peer Circles programme is a powerful example of how lived experience can drive real change. By providing tailored, one-to-one support from trained peer advisors who have overcome similar challenges, the programme empowers vulnerable individuals to address barriers such as homelessness, addiction, and mental health issues. This innovative approach not only transforms lives but also highlights the importance of personalised, compassionate solutions in creating meaningful, long-term community impact. https://lnkd.in/ewdv4fXq #ERSAconf #ERSA #EmployabilityProfessionals #Employability #ERSAawards2024

As we recognize Mental Health Awareness Month this May, let's not forget those who are often overlooked and underserved - the justice-impacted. Did you know that while 18% of the general population struggles with mental illness, a staggering 44% of those in jail and 37% of those in prison also face these challenges? Too often, individuals with mental illness end up in the justice system instead of receiving the care and support they need. Let's use this month to advocate for better mental health resources, support systems, and diversion programs for those in need. Together, we can work towards a society where mental health is prioritized and everyone has access to the help they deserve. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #BreakTheStigma #JusticeImpacted

This #WorldMentalHealthDay, we spotlight the critical importance of supporting caregivers' mental health in crisis settings for young children's holistic development. In conflict and crisis-affected areas, nearly one in five individuals grapple with mental health conditions. Social determinants like poverty, violence, discrimination, and isolation directly contribute to the prevalence of these issues. Despite the magnitude of this challenge, many affected populations lack access to mental health and psychosocial support services due to inadequate or non-existent care systems. Community engagement is not just a buzzword; it's a vital component in the healing process of individuals grappling with Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) and mental or emotional trauma. Research shows that a supportive community can provide a safe space for recovery, fostering connection, empathy, and understanding. It creates a conducive environment for healing, where individuals feel seen, heard, and validated. Moreover, community involvement can help break down the stigma surrounding SUDs and mental health issues, encouraging more people to seek help without fear of judgment or rejection. In essence, our communities have the power to change narratives, challenge stereotypes, and make recovery a reality for many. So let's continue to embrace, support, and uplift each other on this journey. #CommunitySupport #MentalHealth #AddictionRecovery

Students experiencing #homelessness are 3X more likely to attempt suicide compared to stably housed youth. For many students experiencing homelessness, school is their sole mental health services provider. ➡️ We share more info, resources, and strategies for using ARP-HCY funding to meet mental health needs at https://lnkd.in/dGGMxAaQ. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #mentalhealth #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealthAwareness #SuicidePrevention #mentalhealthadvocate #mentalhealthadvocacy

Aamica was established primarily as a resource for supporting people in crisis-in particular those considering self harm. lt came about as the result of the suicide of three young people in our community. ln the 4 years prior we had developed and rolled out 'Memorez' a novel way to capture and access life stories of our elders. We did not have the capacity to develop a whole new platform and continue to iterate Memorez concurrently. lt was felt that the need around suicide prevention and mental health should take priority and we set aside Memorez until we could get back to it. We can now (finally!) utilize the Aamica platform to achieve everything we intended in elder support with Memorez as well as supporting mental health initiatives. Here is a short (old) video of how Aamica can help families, carers, supporters and clinicians improve engagement and disposition for our elders. #eldersupport #care #memories #mum #dad #nan #grandad #storiesmatter https://lnkd.in/fkskczS

Young people aged 12 to 25 often face significant mental health challenges, and family support is crucial during these times. Involving families in mental health care is vital, as they often notice behavioral changes and encourage help-seeking. Despite feeling unprepared, families can significantly aid recovery through open communication, education, and support-seeking. Organisations can enhance family involvement by adopting inclusive practices, training clinicians, creating welcoming environments, and engaging the community. This collaborative effort not only benefits young people but also strengthens the overall support system, leading to better outcomes for all. https://lnkd.in/gvXSCh4p

Our Health + Wellbeing programme helps people impacted by homelessness to manage their mental health, build emotional wellbeing and overcome barriers to independence. Many people impacted by homelessness have experienced past trauma, and report having mental health difficulties. Our psychological wellbeing therapists and counsellors are there to respond to this. We use lots of different approaches to support customers. These include one-to-one counselling, group workshops and traditional talking therapy. We also run workshops to engage people through activities like music, art, exercise and even gaming. By working in a psychologically informed way we can address the barriers facing people impacted by homelessness. We can equip them to move forward with their mental and physical health toward happy, independent futures. #mentalhealth #counselling #emotionalwellbeing #homelessness #talkingtherapy #creativeworkshops
