👏 We applaud GlobalFoundries’ commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050. Read our take below to learn how Moov can help your fab become more environmentally sustainable. 💡Moov’s Take: Today, the semiconductor industry is estimated to contribute about 3% to total global GHG emissions. However, that number is expected to increase as demand for chips increases and as governments act to secure supply chains on a shifting global stage. With about 75% of emissions from semiconductor manufacturing coming from the manufacturing process itself, according to one Harvard study, there is ample opportunity for manufacturers to reduce emissions by taking measures to promote sustainable use of equipment, chemicals, water, and electricity in fabs. In fact, promoting the sustainable use of semiconductor manufacturing equipment is part of our mission at Moov. Moov’s team of asset management specialists can help advise any manufacturers looking to make their fabs more environmentally (and financially) sustainable on how to implement circular equipment management practices. Moov helps end users avoid waste by selling legacy equipment and parts for recirculation in other fabs or by recycling equipment. Industrial decarbonisation isn't merely a trend; it's a necessity, a paradigm shift that demands innovative solutions and unwavering commitment. Let’s look at the few promising options to rapidly accelerate the decarbonisation Journey. Hydrogen Beyond Hype: Hydrogen has long been hailed as the ultimate clean energy solution. Recent advancements in green hydrogen production, particularly through electrolysis powered by renewable energy, offer a game-changing opportunity. Imagine industrial sectors powered by clean hydrogen, not just as an energy source but also as a feedstock for critical processes, heralding a new era of sustainable production. Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) : Traditional carbon capture technologies have focused on sequestering CO2 emissions underground, but Emerging CCU technologies explore the conversion of CO2 into fuels, chemicals, and building materials, effectively turning emissions into assets. Electrification: The electrification of industrial processes has gained traction, driven by the proliferation of renewable energy sources. Transitioning from fossil fuel based heating to electric heating, from fossil fuelled vehicles to EV offer immense opportunities in this space. Digital Twins for Decarbonisation: The marriage of digitalization and decarbonisation presents unprecedented opportunities for optimization and emissions reduction. Digital twins, virtual replicas of physical assets, empower industries to simulate and optimize processes in real-time, minimizing energy consumption and waste generation. By leveraging advanced analytics and machine learning, we can navigate the complex interplay of variables to achieve unparalleled efficiency gains. Collaborative Ecosystems: Solving the grand challenge of industrial decarbonisation demands collective action and cross-sector collaboration. Embracing open innovation frameworks, industries can foster ecosystems where stakeholders co-create and share knowledge, resources, and best practices. From startups to incumbents, academia to policymakers, forging synergistic partnerships accelerates the pace of innovation and drives systemic change. Circularity as a Cornerstone: Transitioning from a linear to a circular economy is pivotal in achieving sustainable industrial decarbonisation. Embracing principles of circularity entails designing products for durability, reuse, and recycling, minimizing waste and emissions throughout the lifecycle. By closing the loop on material flows and adopting circular business models, industries can not only mitigate environmental impact but also unlock new revenue streams and enhance resilience. #decarbonisation #climatechange

Absolutely thrilled to share that NXP Semiconductors has reached a significant milestone on our sustainability journey. This comes at a crucial time, as today marks Earth Overshoot Day, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable business practices. Our near-term science-based emissions reduction targets have been approved and are in line with the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi). Here’s a glimpse of our ambitious goals: 🔹 Scope 1 and 2 GHG Emissions: We aim to reduce these by 55% by 2030, using 2021 as our base year. This target complements our existing goals of a 35% reduction by 2027. 🔹 Scope 3 GHG Emissions: We plan to cut these by 35% by 2033, using 2022 as our base year. This target highlights our comprehensive approach to reducing emissions across our entire operations and supply chain. These validated targets underscore NXP’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and proactive climate action. They are not just numbers; they represent our commitment to making a real difference. This achievement provides a clear roadmap for our continued investments in improvements, innovations, and partnerships, driving us towards a more sustainable future.
