In addition to our automotive electronics, Performance Electronics also sells many aftermarket automotive sensors that can communicate with our engine control units to provide critical information about the engine's operating conditions. This week's spotlight is the simple looking sensor with a prestigious pedigree: The Hall effect sensor. Named after the physicist who discovered it in 1879, Edwin Hall, the Hall effect varies output voltage proportional to the magnetic field it is sensing. For PE, the Hall effect is used as a digital switch that can perform a variety of functions in automotive systems. It's commonly used to detect the speed and position of rotating shafts, like the crank or cam to determine ignition timing. #TheMoreYouKnow #EmbeddedSystems #ElectronicEngineering https://lnkd.in/gVuiiddP

Infineon Technologies AG has introduced the new XENSIV™ TLE49SR angle sensor family, offering outstanding resistance to stray magnetic fields and high accuracy. These sensors are designed for safety-critical automotive chassis applications like electric power steering and vehicle height leveling. The XENSIV TLE49SR sensors can withstand magnetic fields up to 8 mT, exceeding ISO11452-8 level IV requirements for car hybridization and electrification. This eliminates the need for external shielding. With intrinsic accuracy below 1°, the sensors can further reduce angle error through multi-point calibration, resulting in less than 0.5° error. This feature compensates for angle deviations caused by mechanical misalignments during manufacturing. Developed in compliance with ISO 26262 as a "safety element out of context," these sensors achieve ASIL C metric on component level, enabling system designs up to functional safety level ASIL D. The initial XENSIV TLE49SR angle sensor products are available now with PWM, SENT, or SPC interface options, packaged in TDSO-8 for surface mounting. Further information is available at https://lnkd.in/eYR3hNsM.
