Zero player games (where a game can automatically play itself basis some rules) are an amazing way to setup an automated state for enjoyment. Recently, I came across a zero-player game and I became more than intrigued to have an automated solution to understand one thing - the analytics behind. The rules are as follows 1. You get 5 "F"s, "X"s, and 6 "O"s. 2. The order of letters is random and the placement on a 4x4 grid is like how you read/write in English. 3. The moment you get the word "FOX" (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, front or back) - you lose the game. Or because the world was different when I was a kid. Maybe all of the above. Games have the limitless ability to create emotions, memories, intrigue, and fun. I felt the way the kids in this commercial felt when I first played Final Fantasy 7 and Mario 64. Games are magic, and they still are. And that's why I love what I do and feel honored to be able to talk to the people who are doing the work. To my game developer/artist friends: I know times have been tough. It's not an easy industry to be in, and sometimes the rewards don't feel worth it. But for anyone who is still out there fighting the good fight: we appreciate you, and what you do is important. For those who leave the gaming industry because of the uncertainty--that's valid too. The spirit of creativity that drives the people who want to work in games can also extend to other industries.
