🏗️ Flat-Pack Units: Aussie Giant Breaks Ground with Mass Timber Pilot! ♻️ Australia’s largest Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT), Goodman Group, is pioneering mass timber systems as a sustainable alternative to traditional steel-and-concrete construction. Their first project in the Asia-Pacific region, a 15,000-square-metre warehouse at Moorabbin Airport, is set to open in November 2024. 🔍 Why This Matters: 1️⃣ Sustainability & Speed: The mass timber construction boasts an estimated 23% reduction in embodied carbon compared to traditional steel fabrication. Additionally, its modular nature facilitates faster construction with fewer on-site trucks, minimising disruption in the busy Boundary Road area. 2️⃣ Innovation in Construction: Goodman’s initiative aligns with strategic innovation, sustainability, and flexibility priorities. Jason Little, CEO of Goodman’s Australian business, says, “One of our priorities is to trial products and construction methods that are low-carbon, resilient, and provide positive outcomes for our customers.” 3️⃣ Global Shift: This project is part of a broader trend among global developers to adopt mass timber over reinforced concrete. This trend is evident in Europe, where one of the EU’s largest developers is constructing a 27,000-square-metre all-timber warehouse, highlighting the global shift towards more sustainable building practices. 🚧 The development at Moorabbin Airport, the warehouse will feature four units ranging from 3,500 to 4,300 square meters, a 25-metre shared hardstand, an eight-metre large canopy, and 99KW solar panels. Goodman Group’s commitment to sustainability and innovation sets a new standard for the construction industry. 🔗 For more details on Goodman Group’s mass timber pilot and the global trend towards timber construction, visit Wood Central’s special feature: https://lnkd.in/gWTmPfCx 🗣️ #questionforgroup: How do you see mass timber technology influencing the future of construction and sustainability? 📦 Developers Opt for Timber Over Concrete in Massive Warehouse! ♻️ One of Europe’s top logistics developers, Garbe Industrial Real Estate, has partnered with Logicenters to break ground on one of the world’s largest all-timber logistics warehouses in Southern Germany. This 27,000-square-metre facility, an entirely circular building at the port of Straubing-Sand, is expected to be completed in Q3 2025. 🔍 Why This Matters: 1️⃣ Sustainable Construction: The "timber logistics hall" will be built entirely from wood, including structure, mezzanine levels, and façade. Using spruce and Douglas fir sourced from PEFC-certified forests in German Bavaria and Austria, the project will reduce CO2 by up to 66% compared to conventional reinforced concrete construction. 2️⃣ ESG Commitment: Adrian Zellner, a member of Garbe Industrial Real Estate's executive board, highlighted the company’s ambition to set new sustainability standards. The structure will meet the German Sustainable Building Council’s Gold Standard. 3️⃣ Renewable Energy: The facility will feature a 16,500-square-metre photovoltaic system, generating renewable energy with a peak output of around two megawatts. The building will also include LED lighting and a climate-friendly air-to-air heat pump. 🗣️ Martin Ohly, General Manager of Logicenters Germany, emphasised that this project is part of Nrep’s strategy to build a sustainable and ESG-oriented logistics hub across Europe. The Straubing-Sand Port Association played a crucial role in awarding the site, with their commitment to timber construction being a decisive factor. 🔗 Learn more about this groundbreaking project and the future of sustainable logistics development: https://lnkd.in/gGQjHUrf 💬 #questionforgroup: How can the logistics industry further leverage sustainable construction methods like mass timber to reduce its carbon footprint?
