Our mission is to provide sustainable solutions for high-quality, cost-effective construction. Here are 4 reasons you should use Omni Block: 1. Design Flexibility. The architecture is not limited when designing with Omni Block. 2. Impervious to Termites. Termites eat wood and paper layers of sheetrock. They do not eat block. 3. Reduced Maintenance. The durability of concrete is unsurpassed. Omni Block is a concrete product that requires very little maintenance to keep it looking new. 4. Standard Masonry ConstructionAn Omni Block job site looks exactly like a standard concrete block job site. There are no unique tools or special parts required. Thermoelectric actuators are essential for precise control of individual heating circuits in underfloor heating systems. 🌡️ These actuators use a wax element to open or close valves, allowing warm water to flow through specific pipework loops. This is especially useful for homes with multiple heating zones. 🏡 Want to know more? 👉https://lnkd.in/eThJPfit #HORSTAD #underfloorheating #underfloorheatinguk #valve #heatingcomponents #heatingsystem #sustainableheating #propertydevelopment #propertydeveloper #builder #architect #housebuilder #homeheating #propertyheating #commercialheating #industrialheating

Having worked with Rib and Block for roof slabs, here are some advantages and disadvantages of using this construction method: Advantages: Cost-Effective: The system is economical due to the reduced use of concrete and steel. It also allows for the use of precast components, reducing labor costs. Lightweight Construction: The hollow blocks reduce the overall weight of the slab, which can lower foundation costs. Easy Installation: The components (ribs, blocks, and topping) are easy to handle and install, which speeds up construction. Thermal Insulation: The hollow blocks provide better thermal insulation compared to solid slabs, which helps regulate indoor temperatures. Sound Insulation: The air gaps in the blocks can also contribute to soundproofing, making it suitable for residential and commercial buildings. Span Capabilities: Rib and block systems can cover larger spans compared to traditional reinforced concrete slabs, reducing the need for internal columns or load-bearing walls. Durability: When designed and constructed correctly, the system is strong and long-lasting, with good resistance to cracking. Reduction in Formwork: Minimal formwork is required compared to cast-in-place slabs, as the blocks act as part of the formwork. Disadvantages: Limited Aesthetic Flexibility: The system may not be suitable for designs requiring exposed slabs or curved shapes. Skilled Labor Required: Proper installation requires trained personnel to ensure accurate placement and structural integrity. Potential for Poor Workmanship: If not installed properly, there can be issues like improper compaction, misalignment, or gaps between blocks and ribs. Limited Load Capacity: Rib and block slabs may not be suitable for very high loads compared to solid concrete slabs. Cracking at Joints: Poor connection or finishing can lead to cracks forming at the joints between the topping concrete and the precast ribs. Maintenance Concerns: Over time, moisture penetration into the joints or poor-quality blocks can lead to deterioration. Fire Resistance Limitations: The blocks used are often less fire-resistant compared to a solid concrete slab unless specifically treated or made of fire-resistant materials. Material Sourcing: Availability of quality blocks and ribs can be a challenge in some areas, which might delay construction or increase costs. Considering these points, do you think you can opt for this method of construction?

Well, well—this is impressive! A fast and economical design approach is always worth celebrating. However, I'm curious about the strength at the point where the blocks hook into the beam. Could this become a potential point of weakness? I stand corrected if I’m wrong, but this raises an interesting discussion about structural integrity and design optimization. Thoughts?

It is a ribbed slab, but the ribs here are precast rib Beams. The voids in an ordinary rib slab are filled with light weight hollow blocks. It has it pros and it cons though. Some of it pros that I can remember are; 1. It is lighter than solid slabs because light weight hollow bricks are used to fill the spaces between the ribs (i.e the intermediate smaller beams). Good for high rise. 2. It requires less concrete and reinforcement, hence making it cheaper 3. The voids trap sounds, hence making it more sound proof over solid slabs 4. Can span longer than solid slab 5. Saves cost of formwork 6. Ability to span longer distances compared to a solid slab Cons I can remember are 1. Requires a specialist like a structural engineer to design and supervise it and requires experienced labor 2. It is usually thicker than solid slabs because of the ribs (beams), hence making the building taller or reducing the headroom 3. It's not advisable to use it in damp areas like bathrooms hence you might have seepage problems.

Work has started in earnest on our extension and refurbishment project in South Devon. inkPAD was commissioned in November 2023 to undertake work Stages 1-4. With the guidance and expertise of Denise Pichler of Pilcher Planning, planning permission was granted in April 24. Rather than replacing the existing dwelling, the proposals work with and adapt the existing structure, upgrading the interior and exterior of the property and improving connections throughout the house and garden. The floor area is increased by raising and extending into the roof, and poorly constructed extensions have been removed. A fabric-first approach has been adopted, significantly improving the property's thermal efficiency. This, combined with renewable energy sources such as Air Source Heat Pumps, Solar PV, plus plenty of natural light and ventilation, forms a strong environmental strategy. The property will be finished in a muted palette of colours and tones featuring natural timber cladding and zinc. A comprehensive set of stage 4 technical information has been issued and coordinated with Nathan Barbour at NGB Structural Ltd and Chris Cook at Devon Renewable Energy Mike Dei & David Champion of Zest South West have been appointed the principal contractor on the project, and we can’t wait to see this development take shape. #architecture, #CIAT, #design, #home, #building, #construction, #homedesign, #propertydevelopment,#buildingdesign, #property,#planning, #planningpermission,#devon,
