Can you adhere thin masonry to the exterior of a building, similar to a tile installation? The answer is yes, if you approach it the right way using appropriate materials, informed design, and qualified labor. Chapter 13 of the Building Code Requirements for Masonry Structures (TMS 402-22) and chapter 14 of the International Building Code (IBC 2021) put forth requirements for designing with adhered veneer, prescribing limitations on thickness, weight, substrates, and other important criteria.
