#blog on the topic of home schooling: Homeschooling, an alternative to traditional schooling, involves educating children at home rather than in a formal school setting. Parents or tutors typically take on the role of educators, providing customized learning experiences tailored to each child's pace, interests, and learning style. Homeschooling offers flexibility in curriculum choice, scheduling, and teaching methods, allowing for a more personalized education experience. It can foster closer family bonds and allow for greater exploration of individual interests. However, homeschooling requires significant commitment from parents or guardians, as they must plan and deliver instruction across various subjects. Socialization opportunities may need to be sought out intentionally, as homeschoolers may have fewer interactions with peers in traditional school settings. Despite challenges, homeschooling continues to gain popularity for its ability to provide tailored education and accommodate diverse learning needs and preferences. Additionally, homeschooling allows for the incorporation of real-life experiences into the curriculum, such as field trips, community service, and internships, which can enhance learning and practical skill development. This hands-on approach can provide a more holistic education that prepares children for the challenges and opportunities they will encounter beyond the classroom. #talentserve #internship

The National Education Policy (NEP) is a comprehensive framework introduced by governments to guide the development of education systems. NEPs often encompass a wide range of aspects, including curriculum design, teacher training, assessment methods, and educational infrastructure. The primary goal of NEPs is to enhance the quality and accessibility of education while addressing the evolving needs of society. Key components of NEPs typically include a focus on holistic and multidisciplinary learning, promoting critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. They often emphasize the importance of early childhood education, equitable access to education for all segments of society, and the integration of technology in teaching and learning processes. Moreover, NEPs often aim to foster a culture of lifelong learning, recognizing that education is not limited to formal schooling but extends throughout individuals' lives. By aligning educational policies with broader societal goals, NEPs seek to ensure that education systems effectively prepare individuals for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. My internship of two months with Bryt Schools was a great learning experience and an eye-opener into an industry that is becoming increasingly important for quality school-level education in India. Bryt works with affordable private schools (APS) to improve student outcomes and increase school revenues. APSs are private schools that charge fees up to 1500 rupees per month. These schools deliver similar student outcomes as government schools at one-third the cost. Almost half of India’s schoolgoing children go to private schools. Research told me that the government’s stance towards APSs is based on “heavy-handed” regulation. Requirements like a mandatory minimum area covered by the school and access to a playground, apply to APSs but not government schools. Complying with these requirements creates challenges for APSs and may be a barrier in improving school offerings and therefore student outcomes. I was disheartened to learn of this major challenge for such an integral part of our education system, posed by the government itself. In this context, I appreciated Bryt’s contribution to the functioning of the APS industry. Their program offers a curriculum, textbooks, apps, and year-round assistance to client schools. I contributed to Bryt’s work through tasks including research, assisting with teacher training, and conducting social media activities. These tasks helped me see how the APS industry can be empowered to grow while also helping students reach their potential. Thank you to Shilpa Chaganti, Bina Jeyabalan, and Srinivasan Chandrasekar for facilitating my internship. Thank you, Vijayalakshmi Swaminathan, Nandita Singh, and Sridevi P for valuable lessons about curriculum design, communicating with teachers, and the economics of service providers like Bryt. Thank you, Professor Debasis Rooj from FLAME University for mentoring my internship! #education #affordableeducation #research #economics #publicpolicy
