🧬StudierendenStadt is back—bigger and better!🧬 We were thrilled to organise and host StudierendenStadt for the second consecutive year at Hamburg University of Technology! This unique, cross-semester course offers Bachelor’s students a fantastic opportunity to dive into the world of microbiology.🧫 Over two weeks, students from the 2nd and 4th semesters collaborated to tackle a real research question. They worked hands-on with environmental samples to isolate, characterise, and identify microorganisms. It was a fantastic chance for them to practice team building, develop communication skills, and experience microbiology in action.🧪 At our institute, we believe in "learning by doing," and this course embodies that philosophy—helping students explore their passion and shape their future career paths in science. 🔬🧑🏻🔬 #LearningByDoing #Microbiology #Biotechnology #YoungScientists #stem #Education

Happy news!😊 A framework to improve biocatalysts for sustainable biotechnology has begun as a collaborative effort between The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (DTU Biosustain) and researchers from Germany and The Netherlands! 💥 As we all know, we need to replace industrial methods for production of chemicals with more sustainable biotechnological processes to reduce the use of fossil fuels and the production of greenhouse gases.🌍 Developing cost-effective bio-based processes require the creation of stable and selective enzymes that serve as efficient biocatalysts. Unfortunately, using traditional methods to modify and test improved enzymes is a slow and labor-intensive job. To speed up the process of enzyme engineering, an international team including scientists from DTU Biosustain, The Charité in Berlin in Germany, Leiden University in the Netherlands and the Research Center Jülich in Germany will join forces to combine machine learning and directed evolution with automated workflows and efficient selection processes in metabolically rewired bacteria ('selection strains') to address challenges and expand the possibilities for enzyme engineering. 👏👏👏 This interdisciplinary collaboration will include the generation of massive DNA sequence libraries, the application of bacterial strains that introduce additional mutations to increase the solution space, and the selection of the best enzyme variants based on high-throughput screening procedures. 🔈“With this integrated approach, enzymes can be engineered faster and more reliably than before and we are very excited about that”, says postdoc Enrico Orsi from DTU Biosustain, who is lead author of the article. 🔈 Professor Pablo Ivan Nikel from DTU Biosustain adds: "This framework will accelerate the pace at which we construct cell factories, and we are excited to incorporate this framework into our existing research lines embedded in the biofoundry". The research results of the collaboration have just been published as a perspective in Nature Communications: https://lnkd.in/dShkPgkr #biotechnology #engineering #sustainability #biofoundry Novo Nordisk Foundation DTU - Technical University of Denmark

~Scientific communication - My happy place~ 🔬 About 3-4 years ago, when I started using BioRender, I fell in love with illustrating scientific concepts and ideas. Never did I imagine that my creations will be viewed and used by multiple others all over the world. Funnily enough, a lot of these were made for my college assignments and seminars. 👩🏽🔬 Today I received an email update about the number of people who have used/viewed my BioRender template on #NGS #IonTorrent. Though that number might be small, it feels happy to be able to contribute to science in my own little ways. Like they say, it's a start. 👩🏽💻 Some people have asked me earlier on, why am I doing this for free? Well, we all have to start somewhere, our struggles define our own journey. Furthermore, it gives me happiness to know that I am learning different skills and making myself adept in all of my fields of interest. 🥼Here's to the inner child in all of us, the child that fell in love with science. #science #scientificillustration #scientificcommunication #lifescience #illustrators #biology #research

🦠🧫 Dive into the World of Microbiology with Gram Staining! in Viyen Biotech🌟🦠 Ever wondered how scientists identify different bacteria? 🤔 Check out our latest video to see the magic of Gram Staining in action! 🧪✨ 🔹 What’s Gram Staining? It’s a powerful technique that classifies bacteria into two main groups: Gram-positive (purple) and Gram-negative (pink). This method reveals crucial information about bacterial cell walls and helps in diagnosis and treatment. 💡🔍 Why It Matters Gram staining is not only a valuable diagnostic tool in clinical microbiology but also plays a significant role in research and environmental studies. It provides rapid results that can significantly influence treatment decisions, especially in critical cases. We invite you to watch our latest video, where we demonstrate the Gram staining process step-by-step. This technique is perfect for students, professionals, and anyone curious about the microscopic world of bacteria. 🥸 How It Works: Apply the Crystal Violet Dye – It gives bacteria a deep purple colour. 😈 Add Iodine – This helps lock in the dye.🤐 Decolorize with Alcohol – This step differentiates bacteria based on their cell wall structure. Counterstain with Safranin – It adds a pinkish hue to Gram-negative bacteria.👹 🎥 Watch the step-by-step process and see how this simple yet essential technique helps in understanding microbial life. Perfect for students, professionals, or anyone curious about the microscopic world! 🌍🔬 👉 Tap to watch, and don’t forget to like and share if you find it interesting! 😜🤓 Kudos to R&D Team #Microbiology #GramStaining #Science #Education #Bacteria #LabLife #ScientificMethods #BioScience #STEM #Learning #biotechnology #Pathogens #Microbiologyvlog #Research Karthikkumar D Sweety Philip Aneesha Senthil Kumar Kalaiyarasan D

⁉ Those of you who are #Biotechs will surely have heard this question many times: so that's a bit like Biochemistry and Biology, isn't it? My grandparents still tell me almost every week that "some guys from a lab have been on TV, that's like what you're doing, right?" During these 10 years I think I have been unable to specify in only a single sentence what the work of a Biotechnologist consists of 🤷♀️ 🔬 When I decided to study #Biotechnology I didn't really know what I would find, but what I did know was that I wanted to contribute to cancer research 🎗 When I finished my degree, I had the feeling that I had spent four years learning things "half-heartedly": a lot of information but not much depth. Still, I think that was perhaps the best gift of all 🎁 So, yes, thanks to #Biotech I'm right where I wanted to be. Of course, you don't need to study Biotech to study cancer, I realised that a long time ago, the degree doesn't give you the key to it. Today, on #BiotechDay, I feel incredibly proud to be a Biotechnologist 👩🔬, and to have gained knowledge from so many different areas, which make me better understand what surrounds me and how things happen. Biotechnology is everywhere, in the yoghurt with probiotics you have for breakfast 🥛, in the detergent in your washing machine 🛁, in the beer/wine you have had today for an appetizer 🍻, and in the insulin that friend with diabetes has to take 💉💪 As a professor told me at university, "A biotechnologist is a professional of life, with the ability to integrate a wide range of knowledge". (Perhaps a bit of a show-off 😂, but not far from the truth though). Happy Biotechnology day! ¡Feliz día de la Biotecnología! 🍃 🧠 🆎 🔬 💻 ⚗ #Biotechnology #Biotecnología #DíadelaBiotecnología #16june
