Good morning everyone! How a field and design world can change! 👨🎓>👨💼 As I reflect (over a cup of coffee… aka”designer’s fuel”) on the incredible shifts in the design world, I’m reminded of my early days as a student of Industrial Design at Delft UT. Back then, we relied on mood boards—those carefully curated collages built from magazine clippings, a far cry from the digital tools we now take for granted. I saw potential in everything, even a random magazine page—you never know when it might come in handy! One magazine, in particular, became more than a source of inspiration: Monocle. Since its launch, I’ve been a dedicated subscriber, a collector, even a bit of a hoarder—refusing to part with back issues. In the early days, I would even buy it from a physical store, using the opportunity to stumble upon other beautiful publications. But as with all things, change is inevitable. This October, my wife and I are expecting our first child, and the home that once held stacks of magazines is now being transformed. I’m parting with issues I haven’t cracked open since 2007, despite the attachment. Letting go feels strange, but I have to be honest with myself: the archive is digital, the content is timeless, and space is finite. But a paper magazine will stay my magazine of choice. Since 2006, much has changed in both design and life.
