Bioregional regeneration
🌙This Monday, January 20th at 7pm CET, join us to see an inspiring initiative of local citizens stewarding their Bioregion to shift its path towards a more interconnected and flourishing future. Laconia, where The Southern Lights has its origins, is one of the 7 bioregions of this project, is full of diverse natural landscapes, culture and people who deeply care about their community. 🌍 The idea of Bioregions gives us a way to reimagine and work on how we can connect through the common geographical & cultural features of each area. It comes to life through actions that empower co-creation and collaboration with local communities. In this virtual event, we’ll begin our inspiring journey of the “Bioregional Weaving Labs” through videos that capture the essence and unique character of each Bioregion. We’ll gain insight and have the chance to engage directly with 2 of the 7 Bioregional Weaving Labs and their local actors who are part of this common effort. This is a great opportunity to ask on-the-ground questions and better understand their realities. The driving force behind this, the Bioregional Weaving Labs Collective provides the framework where each region's one-of-a-kind natural and social elements to be combined with local stewardships, while remaining part of a larger whole. 🧩 In the video below, 1 of the 7 presented in the upcoming event, discover some of the projects that already taking place in Laconia, Ostria and the Cine Club of Monemvasia, which are giving hope and rise to a new way of acting in our bioregion. 🎥Watch the video about Laconia and its local initiatives here: https://lnkd.in/dqXgYyuN 📅 Register for the “Bioregional Hope” event here: https://lnkd.in/d2fmvV2u We’re excited to be part of of the fabric being woven across Europe and beyond! 💙 #Bioregion #BioregionalHope #Laconia #Ashoka #Λακωνία

Decarbonisation technology implemented at Verallia's Cognac, France glass manufacturing facility will be discussed during a conference paper. The paper at Glassman Asia in #Bangkok, #Thailand, in February will present the benefits and challenges of the all-electric melting #technology implemented by Fives at Verallia’s Cognac plant in 2024. The paper, titled 'Decarbonised technology for the #glass industry' will be provided by Andrew Reynolds, Fives Business Development Director, will also provide an analysis of hybrid technology. He will describe how green solutions are now available to glass manufacturers, including #electric and hybrid furnace technology. The choice of technology depends on the project requirement, each option imposing restraints as well as benefits. All-electric melting provides the most #energy efficient solution, yet cannot be easily applied to some glass types; hybrid furnaces provide greater flexibility at the expense of #zero #emissions. The organiser is still accepting submissions for conference papers for Glassman Asia. If you are interested in speaking, please email gregmorris@quartzltd.com

A Kiwi innovation that is changing the way we fish. The innovative design reimagines the way fish are caught and managed through the trawl. The FloMo codend is a composite fabric cylinder that hydrodynamically inflates using the directional flow of water created during a trawl. Apertures of varying sizes and patterns are cut into the fabric cylindrical retention modules that allow water to escape, reducing the flow in trawl and, at the same time, allowing undersize fish to escape. The terminal end of FloMo, the lift bag, allows the catch to be brought on board in a bag of water, not only minimising crushing damage and maintaining the quality of fish destined for market but also greatly increasing the likelihood of survival for any catch returned to the ocean. FloMo will attach to most traditional trawl set-ups and has been extensively trialled in bottom and mid-water trawls. Find out why FloMo is a better way to fish at www.flomo.co.nz

Flex Tree can be considered as an alternative to animal leather. With a special treatment, the wood becomes flexible, sewable and washable. It is 98% flexible in the direction of the wood grain and transversely to it, not thermo-formable but resistant up to 80°C. It can be engraved with a laser. It is water- resistant therefore washable and it is sewable by hand or machine just like a normal leather. It is soft to touch like leather. The cypress Flex Tree essence is backed with bio-based, natural 100% hemp canvas. The expertise and experience of Giada Dammacco and Filippo Pagliai have played a significant role in the innovative approach of Pangaia Grado Zero. Through their research and development efforts, they have pushed the boundaries of material utilization and introduced sustainable and nature-inspired materials into the manufacturing industry. Why Glitzcamp Uses 6063-T6 Aluminum Alloy Frames for Our Tents? 1. Their excellent mechanical properties, including high tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation, allow them to withstand significant loads and impacts. 2. The anodic oxidation treatment enhances surface quality, creating a protective layer that improves both durability and appearance. 3. Aluminum alloy inherently resists corrosion, and anodic oxidation further enhances this property, making our tents ideal for outdoor use. 4. 6063-T6 aluminum alloy has a low density, reducing overall weight and improving energy efficiency and transportability. 5. Aluminum alloy frames are recyclable, aligning with sustainable development and environmental conservation goals. #Sustainability and #embodiedcarbon must be front and centre ! #Toughening / #Tempering glass units unnecessarilly leads to higher #emissions and thus bad for the #environment. This is just one of the reasons why FINEO offer both #toughened and #annealed in its award winning #vacuumglazing. There is no point in having #energyefficient products if you are not conscious of how they are made and indeed the #embodiedcarbon they generate. #Fineo is also manufactured in #Belgium by AGC Glass Europe and they have set some very ambititious #sustainability targets including the introduction of #lowcarbon #glass and the #decarbonisation of its #manufacturing plants and #processes. Just some of the reasons why we only use #Fineo #vacuumglazing in #UK and #Ireland, instead of importing all the way from China.
